Princess Serena and german variant princesses
« on: January 28, 2014, 01:31:22 AM »
Hello.
I purchased what I believed to be a normal uk release princess Serena (aquamarine) with unfaded hair to be told yesterday over tea with nappercasper that she's a german release! OK now I'm shocked lol
The pat pending mark has been rubbed off and her hair is bright pink.
Looking at my other princesses I've noticed that two others have this mark removed as well (tiffany and royal blue) ...However they do not look like the german releases I've seen more like normal uk versions.
Can someone shed light on this for me, as I'm now rather confused  :what::freak:

Nirvana forum has a waaaay better fanbase of princess variants, I can say the true german variant P. Tiffany should have yellow hair. The whole pat pend stuff is a bit fuzzy to me....
Remember kids....don't drink and ebay...

I would move the thread to Nirvana but its a bit of a grey area. We don't tend to class all ponies with no pat pend as Nirvana because its not a specific country release pony, its just a result of manufacture timing. Also that would mean a tremendous amount of ponies would need to be reclassified :P

There always seems to be confusion over the pat pend thing. The lack of a pat pend simply means that the pony was manufactured later than the ponies with pat pend in place. Its not a specific thing done for the German/Euro market. In Europe we traditionally get our releases 3 to 6 months after the US - this means we get the ponies which are manufactured 3 to 6 months after the ponies which were manufactured for the US. So when the pad pend is removed during a manufacture or between a break in the manufacture for the US and then for the "rest of the world" market, we then see that all of that pony released in the US have the stamp and all of the ponies released elsewhere dont have the stamp.

Now the German release Princesses you are thinking of were for a specific country release and have changes for that market - that marks them out as Nirvana. :) These lovely girls in your picture were Euro releases of the Princesses [due to the pat pend] but they could have been releases in any Euro country which carried the set.

Okay I think I understand a bit more now lol....its so confusing! I think I'm just about getting there then arrgghh. ..lol

Does that mean Serena isn't German? I'm pretty sure her hair isn't fading pink and she has lots more tinsel than my other princesses as well.
Her tail tinsel isn't evenly distributed in her tail it's like a separate tail on top of her normal one :)

I replied you at the Nirvana forum too :silly: But yep, yours is definitely the German Princess variant. It is hard for some to spot her as a variant because unlike the other Princesses her hair color isn't that different. Her pink is the not-fading one (if you have a mint pony with a non-fading pink hair you can compare them and spot the subtle differences), though the tinsel is more a factory-thing :) There are some Princesses with no tinsel or with a lot of tinsel, which are some cool variant oddities.

So yeah, Serena is a Nirvana. Tiffany and Royal Blue aren't.

I answered in Nirvana too :) She does on the picture look like the purple pink version of Serena. However, a better picture would probably confirm for certain. Her hair does not look like the bubblegum pink coloured version of Serena so if her hair is pink rather than purply pink she may simply be the normal release of Serena but without her fading pink hair having faded.

I'll try and get a better picture...its so hard as it's been a grey miserable day here... Her hair is definitely brighter/darker than any of my fading pink ponies :)

Ugh...it is miserable today isnt it!

I dont think it looks quite pink enough. It really looks like the pinky purple version - here is shelti's amazing website which will show you them side by side http://shel-tponies.com/PPCATALOG/PPCatSerena.html

Looking at those (great link btw :) )I'd say she is the pinky purple version ..she did have curly hair but it dropped out as it was really tangled and dirty i had to wash it and the curl fell out so i styled it straight.
Thanks cat :)
Can you pc her? I paid £13 for what I thought was the original uk release as she was the last one I needed but now I NEED the other variants ...she says she's lonely :(
