Interesting hair patterns...
« on: January 24, 2014, 11:16:22 AM »
So, I'm not a really active G3 collector, though I will buy them when I find them 2nd hand or if they're cheap or on my short list of ones I actually know that I'm missing... but, I was looking at some of my G3s I recently got, and I realized that Sweetberry has a very interesting hair pattern!

It's unlike most others I've noticed...

I think this is the best pic I can find on Google Images - but, she has smaller white stripes surrounding the middle aqua stripe. I haven't noticed this on many other ponies, and just thought it was kinda neat! I wonder why Hasbro went kinda... outside the box with her?

What are some other ponies you know of that have unique factory hair patterns? Please share pics, I am very interested in seeing more ponies with patterns "outside the box" of normal pony patterns!

Your picture isn't showing up, but I think I have one that fits your description.

In the middle of the G3 era, I wanted to keep track of the slight variations between the different releases (such as Minty released as a single, Minty from the double pack, Minty winter exclusive, etc).   Hasbro would sometimes switch up the hair patterns or shades of color. I spent a very long weekend cataloging a lot of them.   This was before the G3 line was completely finished, so I it's far from a complete reference, but it does help.

Anyway, here are some of the more interesting hair patterns I like:
Magic Marigold:

Fantastic pictures ashlyne!

I always loved Autumn Skyes hair :) And yes for some reason with certain ponies, Hasbro just got a little more creative. I love that about G3s so many of them just have something extra about them which are often over looked - be it hair pattern or the finish of their plastic or the symbol in their eye. Love all that!
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Here's my album, but it only goes up to a certain year (it's not complete), and I don't have the releases labeled....except maybe the Minty and Pinkie Pie ones. I have written list somewhere that tells me which pony is what release, but you might find Kagri's website more useful.   It's helped me sort out a lot of mysteries over the years!!

You're welcome :)

I think Triple Treat has the most complex hair pattern.  Check out the middle variation.  It goes...

Broad Dark Pink stripe
Thin Yellow stripe
Thin Pale Yellow stripe
Thin Yellow stripe
Broad Pale Pink stripe
Broad Dark Pink stripe
Thin Yellow stripe
Thin Pale Yellow stripe
Thin Yellow stripe
Broad Pale Pink stripe

Hasbro had a lot more room to get fancy on G3's.   There isn't much room on those tiny G4 heads to get creative. Although, they have NO excuse for not being creative with the larger fashion style ponies.  They're at least the same size as the fancy G3 Art ponies and Fair ponies.

I agree... I mean, these crazy patterns on G3s (looking back now) make me wonder why they didn't get MORE creative instead of less, very few G4s even have so many colors of hair at all... but, this gives me a little bit more... interest in G3 now, I definitely have to go back and look through my gals to see which versions of them I have... I think it's a really cool thing that Hasbro went outside the box for some of these gals and really gave them interesting hair patterns!
