You'd have to search the forums, I didn't have the TAF Sugarberry that became orange, but there was a whole thread about it with photos... I have no idea how long ago though, sorry! I just know that the outcome of an OxyClean bath was that it turned both Sugarberry's hair orange and also her symbols (and Sugarberry is confusing because it's also the DH name of the hair color for TAF Sugarberry). I have avoided Oxy'ing any of my "hot" haired ponies - so the Sugarberry red and the Surprise chartreuse are the two I know have issues with Oxy.

It really doesn't matter though, does it - because this little Gusty is a true gem having a little variation like that!! I think we'll end up seeing some customs in her honor in the near future, since the orange is so striking!

I did not know this! Very very interesting! I do know that peroxide changes I think sugarberry to a gold color though

Congrats on getting her, she is cute! But the only way to official know if she is a true variation, is removing her head. Even though it looks sealed, it could have just been glued back really nicely. I'm not trying to sound negative, just don't want you to get hopes up without confirming it yet

Either way, baby gusty is always a nice addition to any pony collection!

She is lovely Congrats on adding her to your collection.

I do kind of agree with Sunshine; that red colour that we see on Sugarberry and the like can become a weird orange colour depending on what they are exposed to [hydrogen peroxide and sunlight being the main issue]. And it would be an even change across the hair as long as all the hair was exposed, even the roots inside will have changed. For her to be factory then it would be normal that the hair colour used would at least have been present in the line in some way at that time. The shade doesnt really look like the orange shades Hasbro would use - such as on Gypsy and Tuneful, etc.

However all that being said all that really matters is that you love her And there is always the possibility that she was indeed just a random one off Baby who got given a hank of random orange hair that was sitting around to make her a proper variant.

Ok so I gave in and took Baby Gusty's head off
Have added pictures on the first page of inside her head.
 
I don't think it is a re-hair but what do you all think?

I am sticking with the discolouration theory and even more confident now having seen the inside of her head. The red showing looks much more like her natural colour as opposed to the outside. If she has had her hair/body sprayed/dipped or coated in something [such as hydrogen peroxide in order to get her body white] and then exposed to the sunlight I would not be at all surprised. It really looks like thats what has happened.

She is still lovely and orange is a great shade for her hair!
