Question re: Sea pony
« on: January 20, 2014, 01:41:15 PM »
Hey all! I'd love some help from those of you who collect or have sea ponies. I've never had one before and bought a lot that contained a blue pony with purple hair. The first thing I noticed when I picked her up was that there was something heavy inside. I popped her head off and she was full of rust as well as a heavy oval shaped metal object. Is that supposed to be there to help her stand up??

It's a heavy washer that helps her float in the water. Unfortunately water getting in the pony with the washer makes them rust inside really bad. I take mine out.

Ahhh....okay. Thanks so much for clearing that up! For the life of me I couldn't figure it out and she is seriously rusted inside. I'll go ahead and get rid of it completely then.

Yeah it's too bad they couldn't have used a heavy material that wouldn't of rusted inside the pony. So many sea ponies would be better off now!

Weight rust :P Pretty common on sea ponies - yup pop a non treated metal object inside a toy thats designed to go in bath water...*head desk Hasbro*

As long as the weight and the inside of the pony is completely dry and the pony is never going to be any where wet or humid, you can pop the weight back in. Alternatively you can replace it inside the pony with some thing like marbles for the weight and balance. And just keep the weight to add back in in case you decide to sell :)

Congrats on your first sea pony! They are so pretty.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
