I know how a lot of people's biggest dislike of G1 customs is the loss of the original pony.  I was thinking the other day, if someone had access to a 3D printer, would it be possible/worth the time/cost to made G1 3d printed baits?  Not that I have access to a 3D printer or anything, just thought it would be a neat idea.

I think it would be possible, just not sure about the time/cost advantage. I've used a 3D printer before and it kinda takes a while to work, and the surface ended up different from what a base MLP would feel like... Though of course that's only my own experience!

This has come up before, and the general consensus is that it would be far too expensive to be practical., plus it would be very different to work with.

I had thought about that too. I saw a piggy custom once which was very cute but of course I'd never custom even the baitiest piggy, so I thought maybe get one 3d printed. I haven't done it though and the eyes wouldn't be the same but I may do it one day.

It's a fun idea. Especially for those of us that would love to customize boy ponies while preserving the integrity of originals. Here's hopes to it being cost effective someday...

Someday maybe, and I'm sure it wouldn't be financially conceivable for awhile yet.  I was just hopeful to hear if somebody had already tried it.  Because I would totally be in!

I think its a great idea

I completely understand right now the price is prohibitive and the finish on the lesser machines probably not good enough. Not to mention you would need a soldering iron to add the hair plugs/tail hole due to how solid the plastic is on most machines. But in the future? Who knows! It would be fantastic!
