Seller ended auction only to relist it?
« on: January 04, 2014, 07:03:58 AM »
I'm confused. A seller ended an auction for 3 G4 ponies early, then relisted them almost immediately. The high bid on the old auction was higher than the BIN listed on the new one, so I'm confused why they'd do this. Any thoughts?

Perhaps there was an error with the listing? I'm pretty sure you can't edit a listing once there are bids on it.

My guess is that the seller got a better offer than the bidding looked like it would get. (Say for example the BIN was $150 and the bidding was at $60.) If a buyer and seller make an agreement, buyer might offer $100, seller relists for $50, only pays FVF on $50 and the buyer pays full $100 for the item, probably through a separate paypal invoice from the seller. Seller cheats eBay out of higher FVF but still sells her item.

Of course that is just a guess and I am going by that you said it was an auction originally and then relisted at a BIN.

Hmm, that's a good explanation! It seems like the new listing is exactly the same as the old one, $8 starting bid or $30 BIN, which is what threw me.

Ahh, I see. It seems the relist was an accident, since they just ended that one too. Mystery solved!

I've seen eBay listings (non-auction) ended early because the item wasn't available and then IMMEDIETLY relisted. For the same price. I'd understand raising the price, but the same?

Is there a reason anyone would do this? Did they accidently close it? New to ebay and don't understand how it works? The lost the item and freaked out only to find it fell behind the couch three minutes later?

Perhaps sometimes this happenstance if someone bids and they don't want to ship to that country
I have seen buyers mention in auctions not shipping to so and so
Don't bid or bids get canceled
But if seller is new they may just end auction if they don't know how to cancel
It's just my guess here
I do know some new sellers don't know how to note in listing where they can't accept so they just say it on auction instead and hope all bidders read it
