I'm so glad to hear the boiling water method worked for you. It's also great to boil the heck out of the body to get stuck-on crud to release. As with each method there are limitations and drawbacks, of course. Bright hair like Strawberry Field's hair or Paradise will bleed into the water and can stain the pony, so watch for that if you use it on them. Some people also add Oxy products, but they release a chemical when heated, so you should totally wear a mask and open windows or ventilate to counteract it...not good to breathe that stuff in! Myself, I add baking soda. It helps power-deoderize stench ponies, especially mildewed or mold smell, and it works well on cigarette smoke as well. It does dry out the hair, however, and can't be used on so-softs or princesses with the silver applique symbol...it'll boil the shine right off. Conditioning the hair with oils and strong conditioner is a must. I find the ones for heat treat damaged hair work best, but that's a personal preference more than anything.

I've used boiling water and oxy to fix pindot and inground dirt on ponies.  The red and chartreuse hair colors do bleed, as I know, and it was so much *fun* boiling Sweetberry's feet which were covered in pindot and keeping her hair out of the water!  Haha!  I have another Sugarberry who is about to be stuffed in a jar with peroxide to get super white ( she's off white at the moment after months of sun fading ) but she hasn't any hair, so no worries on her. 

For shampoo and conditioner, I use dollspart stuffs, because their stuff is formulated for doll hair and the like and it works pretty well.

Both the fluffy haired Moondusts are my own handiwork!    They're both US MLP, though, I promise!  I wouldn't touch scissors to a Mexi with any decent amount of hair.  I have another Moondust on the way, she's one of my favorites, and I really like rehairing the Princesses as their plastic is a bit firmer and doesn't split very easily like the normal MLP plastic.
