Wonderland - Holiday Swap pony for kaoskat! (pic heavy!!)

I was explicitly told by my husband that if I joined this swap, I absolutely had to apply to be in the "plus" division.  Was I in it?  I don't know, but I assumed that I was and worked accordingly

I went with a wintery theme.  After the last carousel pony that I did that had a summery theme to it, I wanted to make one for each season as time permitted, and this was the time.  I've been calling this pretty lady "Wonderland".

I don't remember who she started as.  She was purple.  Her base started as one of those unfinished boxes you can buy at craft stores and got painted green, with the lid decorated with all sorts of little Christmasy thingies and a music box inside (there's a key on the side), rendering the whole "container" function of the box non-functional.  The pole was painted white, and trimmed with red satin ribbon.  The whole deal stands around 15" tall, which explains the ginormous box she had to be shipped in.

She's got a bridle made from more of the red ribbon, which has been accented with little bows and crystals, which hide the seams.  I also sculpted a little chest piece for her, which was also trimmed with crystals.  It doesn't show up very well in the photos, but it's painted with a mix of regular acrylic and gold interference paint, so it has a subtle golden sheen to it. 

And those holly leaves?  I'd get banned if I used actual words to adequately describe my thought on doing those, so I'll just say "OMGWTFBBQROFLCOPTOR".  Tiny holly leaves are EVIL.

She was given a new mane and tail in a blend of Snowflake and Starlight, with a few tiny stripes of Cherry Pie and Sea Nymph (I think that's what it was, anyway).  Then I pinned all that stuff up on her head and wrapped it on straws and viola, candy cane curls!  Her tail has more of that ribbon as well as a couple of itty bitty candy canes.

Wow nice job, really nice custom. I bet the holly leaves were a pain in the patoot to make. You did a great job on her, congrats!

OMG!!!!!!! She is stunning !!!  I love everything about her love the candy cane hair so pretty  Love the Bridle the Chest piece her eyes  just all of her hehe so well made.

Those holly leaves are stunning can only imagine how many times you went "OMGWTFBBQROFLCOPTOR" as you made them hehe. But they were totally worth it so well made

There was a lot of swearing.  However, for anyone wanting to have their own personal torture of making tiny holly leaves, start like you were going to make sculpted feathers with the clay of your choice, and use a straw to make the curvy cuts out of the sides.  After a dozen or so, you'll realize that you've inadvertently created a blowgun, and you'll start shooting it at the cat(s).

Oh wow, what an epic swap pony! I can totally imagine your frustration but boy, was she worth it. This customs captures the Winter Wonderland magic perfectly! And I can't even start to imagine the shipping costs for something like that...

She plays "Silent Night".  I pulled the music box component out of a snow globe that I bought, which ended up being cheaper than buying a component and having it shipped.

And I can't even start to imagine the shipping costs for something like that...

Initial estimates to send it Priority was about $40, and she was too large to ship First Class, so she was sent Standard instead.  I don't have the receipt handy, but it was much more reasonable!
