Global Warming is certainly not a myth, it's been proven beyond all doubt that the Earth is warming up. What HASN'T been proven is any link to human activity or that mankind can do anything about it. The Earth is on a natural warming cycle anyway and has been since the last Ice Age 10,000 years ago  ;)

Climate change is widely accepted by the scientific community. Nevertheless, rain often follows a heat wave, and it's not unreasonable to have hail form even with the preceding heat.

actually, that is not true :)
Take it from someone with an MS in Environmental Science, we know very well that the cause of climate change right now can be attributed to anthropocentric factors. There's nothing natural about what is going on right now.

yeah if you think about 100 years of cars, nuclear factory's,  nuclear bombs, nuclear testing etc that has to make for something there over the years. i say bring on solar powered cars :)

Can I have some of that heat you guys have! Ohio is freezing right now. We had lower then 10F (-13c I think) lately.   Brrrrrr.....  I love winter actually but I hate that I leave for work in the dark and then head home in the dark.

Christmas day 2011 we had major storms in Melbourne. We were watching them roll in, it looked like a vortex or something. We left my sisters house before it hit, and in the 5 mins it took us to get home there was torrential rain and giant hailstones, I thought my windshield was gonna smash. We had to carry the kids inside with their heads covered, then had to cover my partners car with doonas and blankets to protect it cause he's not insured. Those things hurt!! I have honestly never seen a storm like that before, or since. It was terrifying!! Yet Christmas day this year was mid 30's and sunny - the first hot Christmas in years. Weird weird weather :D

We have a few guaranteed seasons here in good 'ol WI.
Winter
Road Construction starts
Spring
Summer
Fall
Road Construction ends
More Winter

Mostly we just have winter and road construction. I can understand why hail would be so odd for you Shabbychicdee. We usually have it happen a few times a year-most people dread it. There's hardly a dull moment weather-wise and is usually a good start of a conversation with a stranger.
Now global warming... I'm gonna agree with Vintergatan.

Wow, I am so sorry for all the crops that got smooshed! That's insane hail. We have super boring weather here (YAY!) but it was super duper cold here a couple of weeks ago and we were dying because our furnace is down :(

Yeah that's ohio too.  Expect this year the express way by me has decided to leave the construction up all winter.  Yeah not only do we get snow in general.  I live by Lake Erie, and we get lake effect snow.  So let's add a lane split, cement barrier, uneven roads and roads that the snow plows can't get to very well.

Yikes.  Hope no one got beaned by a hailstone!

In general, we can't attribute a specific storm to climate change (much like climate change deniers can't say "oh, it snowed today, global warming must be wrong!"), but if there is a statistical increase in storms, it may be related to climate change.

Global Warming is certainly not a myth, it's been proven beyond all doubt that the Earth is warming up. What HASN'T been proven is any link to human activity or that mankind can do anything about it. Precisely.  97% of scientists agree that it is very likely that climate change is human-cause, according to NASA.

A lot of the "debate" seen among lay-people is caused by the news media presenting supporters and detractors of climate change as having equal viewpoint, when in actuality the supporters have much stronger evidence.  I get to hear a lot about this in my department- I'm working on my PhD in Geology.

yeah if you think about 100 years of cars, nuclear factory's,  nuclear bombs, nuclear testing etc that has to make for something there over the years. i say bring on solar powered cars :)

In fact, nuclear power has very low greenhouse gas emissions, especially when compared to coal power plants or natural gas power.  I'd certainly like to see more renewables such as solar or wind, which have even lower emissions than nuclear, but in my opinion nuclear power could be a good power source in the mean time, which renewable energy technology improves (specifically relating to efficiency, baseload power, and storage).  Nuclear technologies are improving all the time, as well.  Obviously, there are locations where nuclear power should be a no-no (such as on tectonic plate boundaries...) but in general it is safe, as statistics support.

Clearly, nuclear power can be controversial, and I don't want to start a debate.  I just wanted to put it out there that nuclear power isn't nearly the contributing factor to climate change that coal, oil, and gas power and cars and such are... some environmental scientists even support it as a way to decrease greenhouse gas production! :)
