My first chargeback! Help please? UPDATED

Last month, an Ebay buyer bought two items from me.  She paid for them individually, I combined shipping for her (without her asking), refunded the difference, and shipped her items together.  Now, she has done a charge back for one of the items.

I've responded to the claim within the ten day limit, and I've provided tracking information.  Am I going to be in trouble because the tracking number I uploaded for each of the two items was the same?  The one package contained both of her items.  The tracking number says the package was delivered.

My first charge back :(  Very disappointed and annoyed because I sent both of the items and now I have to deal with this headache.



OK, so Paypal has refunded me my money, BUT I don't know if the woman's credit card company is going to recharge her, or not.  So she could still end up with my pony AND her money, but at least I got my money back!

LATEST UPDATE:  Paypal has informed me that the buyer's credit card issuer maintains that the chargeback was valid.  Paypal has refunded me my money, but if I can't successfully fight the chargeback ruling, is Paypal going to take my money back from me again?!?  This woman has not communicated with me AT ALL, and she filed the chargeback after the package was delivered.  She has my pony and my money!

I've emailed the charge back dept the fax cover page they sent me and a scanned copy of the usps receipt for her package. 

Can anyone please give me some advice?  Is there anything else I can do?  It wasn't a huge amount of money, but I am so upset with this whole thing that I am about ready to call Ebay quits :(

Did the package actually get there? If so, she's being totally dishonest, you should post the username here so we can all avoid her!

The package was delivered.  According to the email paypal sent me, the credit card issuer will decide who is right based on the information I provided.  Well, I provided the tracking number, and the package shows up as delivered!

Have other sellers had any luck countering charge-backs?  I knew something like this was bound to happen sooner or later :(  Meanwhile, I'm out of a pony and the money.

Oh man, I feel for you honey. I had one several years back. I did win the dispute though.

It is not going to matter that you used the same tracking number. Paypal will look and see through your transactions that you combined and she was refunded the difference.

All you have to do is provide PayPal with the information relating to the chargeback, including all transaction records (such as proof of shipment). Since the actual chargeback is opened through your buyers credit card company, a PayPal chargeback specialist will then dispute the chargeback on your behalf and try to recover your funds from the buyer's credit card company.

Is she claiming that she never received it?

She's claiming that it was an unauthorized payment.  She never even messaged me ... she just did the charge back!

ponylady, how long did it take for you to get your money back?  She took the price of the item, plus the original shipping, plus a little bit more (paypal fees, I guess?).  I feel really freaked out that a buyer could just snap their fingers and take money from me like that.

This is good advice from Ponylady ^^   I believe a few other members here have had similar experience with chargebacks.
 What a dishonest buyer!  adding to blocked list for sure!

Latest update: the buyer's credit card company maintains that the chargeback was valid.  Does this mean that paypal is going to take back the money that they refunded me from the chargeback?  I'm so upset: I just want this to be over with :(

That is incredibly confusing, I don't understand how she can maintain that 1 arrived and 1 didn't if they were sent together and the tracking says it was received. How would anyone see that as valid? I think if paypal gave you your money you should be in the clear.

She's not claiming that one didn't arrive: she's claiming that one is an unauthorized charge.  I don't know if she's trying to scam me or if she's just confused because she will not communicate with me.

Oh sorry :blush: I must've misread your post. That still doesn't make any sense.  I once had a buyer purchase a gaming lot from me and they claimed it was unauthorized charge after the item had already reached them, I provided paypal with the tracking info and they released the funds to me and that was the end of it.

It does sound as though paypal sided with you, otherwise they wouldn't have released your funds. The only way to know for sure is to call them and ask.

Sometimes in situations like this paypal takes the loss, which sounds like what's happened here.

I think the whole thing is pretty shady though. Why file a chargeback on one item but not the other? "Oh, yes, I totally bought this item, that was me, but the other one that's a related item from the same seller at the same time, totally wasn't me."
