I started wanting them ALL but the more I get the more I realize I don't have enough room. Now there are ones I reaaaaalllllyyyy want and all the rest are just an added bonus.

All the G1's, though I collect the ones I want the most first.  Or whichever ones I find for a steal online, whatevs.

I mostly collect only those that I really want. I do have a few that I won in lots that I'll keep but were not my target ponies. The one thing I feel "got to catch 'em all" about is unicorn ponies. I have a weakness for unicorns  . That being said, I do have quite a few ponies and pony merch  .

I used to own at least one of every G1 US pony ever made......then it was too overwelming and took up too much room especially when I started trying to collect all G3s & other countries G1s. I then decided to create Armies of ponies I loved the most and sold off the rest of my collection.

Ah I'm like that too. I collect all g1-g3, but with g4 I tend to be picky.

I would like to complete all US g1 store releases some day. I guess I'm still stuck in the I've got to have them all mode. I don't feel overwhelmed yet...

I generally like to focus on just the ones I like, from all Generations. With the Funrise G4 plushies, though, I want pretty much one of each character in their 10" and 15" (Princess) sizes. Of the ones that have appeared at my Wal-Mart, I'm only missing Twilight (since I already have other plushies of her).

... Of course, all the characters they've made so far are ones I like to some extent. And at $10 a plushie, I can't lose.

I used to have the "gotta have them all" philosophy, especially when it came to G3, and the earlier years of G1, but gradually my giant collection really overwhelmed me.  I took a break from collecting and sold off the majority of my ponies - I'd say I kept about 40 total G1s and G3s.  Now I have a reasonable collection of G4s going but I'm sticking to only getting the ponies I really like.

For me, it depends. I try to collect all the G4 playful ponies and Fashion style ones, but I won't go out of my way for other pony merch unless it is Fluttershy, then I have to have it if it is her

In G4, I have them all, but I see no need for variants of the same character.

Same here! But I must have variants with bangs, if exist Then I sell doubles without bangs.
