Misleading pony labeling in online auctions :o
« on: December 04, 2013, 03:31:00 AM »
Even though I finally have her in my collection, once in awhile I still search ebay for listings for Mimic because you never know when you can find a great BIN or something and I just found this online and thought I would share. :P  Do a search for "Vintage Totsy Fantasy My Little Pony Mimic"  It's just a plain regular 'evil Totsy' unicorn but they but 'My Little Pony Mimic' in the title to get more views no doubt. Not very cool business practices and very misleading especially if someone was looking for a Mimic!

That deserves a dozen or so fakies thrown at the seller LOL :silly:

I hate searching for 'vintage mlp' and getting G3s in the results, or searching for lots and getting single ponies in the results. Makes me want to slap ebay every time!

Yeah I hate misleading labelling. Especially on ETSY!!! it bugs me like mad Etsy is for Vintage, Antique, Handmade & Supplies only found a bunch of G3's on there the other day the seller said they were 1970's on some and 1980's on some I was like ummmm MLP was not around in the 1970's & it clearly shows 1998 on the bottom of one (G2 i guess) and 2005-6 on the rest ....... really bugs me. Found G2's on there as well b4 they are not vintage either

What bugs me is "SUPER RARE VALUABLE VINTAGE MY LITTLE PONY GREAT DEAL LOOK!!!!" and when you click on it, it's an overmpriced common.

How about G3's marked as G2's and fakies marked as G1 vintage. WHAT?!  >_<

LOL - I think its becoming more and more common now a days as people start using key words for their listings. The number of random items which show up with tags for "FiM" and "Brony" is crazy right now...some times they dont even have anything to do with ponies.

In most listings people dont claim their item is what the title suggests its just to encourage clicks. Its a pretty standard practice nowadays from ebay sellers to multinational companies.

Perhaps they are trying to say "it mimics an MLP"?

Do people actually search for "Brony"? I have seen a lot of items with that in the title...

I found a G1 Pinkie Pie the other day!  OK so it was pure ignorance on the seller's part rather than a deliberate attempt to get more views... but I thought it was cute.

Someone was listing random earphones and kitchen items a couple of months ago and every one had FiM and brony in the title...it was so funny!

Something like that can actually be reported for "keyword spamming" if a popular search term is just bring used to draw more views on the auction & has nothing to do with the item itself.

I also think it just might be a mistake, as in "it mimics a G1 pony" by someone who doesn't know about the word fakie;)
