nail polish remover help?
« on: December 01, 2013, 02:25:32 PM »
I tried to remove the cutie mark on the boot of my eqg pinkie pie doll using nail polish remover w/ acetone, but all it really did was smear it around and make a smudgey, cloudy mess on her boot.
I know people say pure acetone is best for stuff like this but all I could get nearby was nail polish remover (rite aid brand, maybe that's what went wrong?) so when it started smearing I decided to use some sand paper to try and buff away the smudging and it did kinda but now her boot looks scratched and there's still some smudging and cloudiness to the color.  was that wrong?
I'm thinking if I try pure acteone (the kind in the blue and yellow can, I think they sell it at home depot?) it'll get rid of the smudging.
should I give it a try or just opt to send her boots out to be repainted? I've never done any customizing before so any tips or advice will be appreciated! :D

please forgive the crappy picture, my phone sucks! but you can still kinda see the smudging in this pic, it's not too bad but I just want her boot to look nice and clean :)

I get 100% acetone at Walmart with the nail polish remover. It's in clear bottles, in a small size and a large size, and around $3 for the big one. But, all Walmarts may not stock it. Only one in my area does. Still, worth a try! Good luck!

Dollar General always had it when I was in the market.  If you're having a significant amount of difficulty locating some, you can always ask a nail salon. They usually buy it by the bulk.
"How much for the horse tornado?"
"Sir, that's a carousel."
"I must have it!"

I work for Rite Aid, and we definitely sell 100% pure acetone in the nail polish remover section.  I buy it in big bottles all the time :)

I also go for the 100% acetone by Onyx, no more than $3 a bottle at walmart, that stuff is fabulous :)

If you can't find the pure acetone (which I highly recommend) if you put a blob of sunscreen on the symbol and then go over it again with the nail polish remover it will take it off.
