What is your favourite part of collecting my little ponies?
« on: December 01, 2013, 05:02:58 AM »
Well.... I've often thought about this question and I think I've finally found the answer....
I'd Had a bad day at work and walked into my room and opened my pony box containing all 300+ of my collection and the smell of them cheered me straight up. There's just something about the smell of them that reminds me of happier days of a childhood long past lol .
They still smell like new even after 30 years of play time and loft storage!!
I must be pony mad...my boyfriend does call me crazy haha

They cheer me up when I'm having a bad day.  I remember playing ponies with other kids but I mostly enjoyed playing with them by myself.  I had a few G1's as a kid but gave them away.  Anyway, it's nice to just look at them and see all the colors and it just makes me smile.  I have a few G1's who have their new pony smell.  I have a pretty near mint Mimic who smells very new pony.

I hope you get her.  I was lucky, at the last Rhode Island fair someone had two for sale, one was a brighter green and was seemed to be a paler green so I went for the brighter green and they both looked as though they came right out of the package.  It was originally $80, which I was really shocked about considering she goes for much higher online.  I spun his rainbow wheel thing, because the price tag of this particular Mimic had a rainbow sticker on it which meant you could spin the wheel and get a discount of whatever the percentage was when the wheel was done spinning.  I got 20% off I think and the guy took the price down more, because he was nice.  So, I think I ended up paying $60.  I would not have been able to get Mimic otherwise.

Great story :) and she was a bargain too boot! I have spent £35 on a single pony who isn't really that rare, so I'm just going to save my pony budget up and find a nice mimic needing a home.  She is difficult to find in the UK so think i'm going to have to do some shopping in the states :) I love international post :)

Maybe you can save up and go to the next pony fair in your country. I think it's called Pony Con or something right?  I may have that wrong.  At least you wouldn't have to pay shipping. :)

My favourite part's recieving pony mail, tearing the package open, then grooming the new arrival & giving her a unique hairstyle. :) Pony spa sessions are so relaxing.
& I love the feeling of achievement when I cross a name off my wantlist. ^-^

I love the smell of G1 ponies! I don't care how crazy it is. XP

My ponies cheer me up too! They're just so pretty and sweet and colorful. And full of good memories. I love pony mail too, but I also love hunting at flea markets and such. I don't think I can pick one thing...it's a lovely hobby!

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with ponies but I had very few of my own and never had any from any of the shows, because they just weren't sold much where I'm from. Particularly in rural areas. So, my favourite part of collecting them now is the gratification every time I either acquire a pony I wanted as a child, or reacquire one I used to have as a child. It's just nice to be able to give that to my 7 year old self.

I love seeing everyone's collections!  It makes me feel a little less strange to have one myself.     :P     Plus, it's fun to read everyone's squees over new ponies!

I love reuniting sets or accessories.  It makes me feel like the ponies are complete if they come back together with the items they were sold with.

I have two favorite parts!

1.  Knowing that there are ponies coming in the mail for me.

2.  Styling their hair when they get here.

I love developing my head canon. I developed my G1 wish list on having the fewest ponies possible while still having all the variation of poses, colours and concepts that I like. For pegasi I prioritised species in some cases because there just aren't that many. I got it down to about 140 or so with about 40 to go. Ponies are members of seven guilds which each have their own locations in my ponyverse. All the different species live together (Earth Ponies, Unicorns, Pegasi, Wingers) at different locations. Drawing ponies, purchasing and restoring them, making outfits, props and sets for tableux are all part of developing my head canon. For me, stories develop as the locations and characters develop.
