Bait or No Bait?
« on: November 30, 2013, 06:51:38 AM »
At what point do you consider a pony to be bait for custom? I have several ponies I would consider to be bait, but not sure if others would. :)

Show us pictures!  It depends on who they are, and what the flaws are!  There are very few unfixable things, and many ponies aren't considered bait unless of dire circumstance because of the character they are.

Posting pics helps immensely.
Each person has their own things that they consider bait. So honestly what's bait to you may not be bait to me!
Let me see if I can find the bait reference link from gabumon.... click here

It depends on which pony is it. I always prefer to restore when possible. If its a rare pony, not even a missing ear and cut hair would make it bait to me. But Peachy with cut hair? Thats enough to call it a bait.

I will take pictures as soon as I am done eating my pizza. Most of them have some amount of  "cancer" so that just screams bait at me lol

Post Merge: November 30, 2013, 07:26:46 AM

Here is 3 of them...

(For some reason it will not let me post a pic. I have tried 3 different ways and it just doesn't want to work. So, sorry you have to click the link lol. )

Chief has some weird staining going on. Steamer has discoloration. and Glory has cancer spots and is just completely discolored. I get really ticked when the boys have issues. They are my favs lol

I err on the side of never bait-ing G1s. Someone out there will buy them and restore them if they are unwanted. G1s will continue to become fewer and fewer as time goes on -- many get thrown out, destroyed, lost, or collected by people like us... etc. And, with boy ponies, a lot of people will still take them.

I think a lot of people now only use newer Gens for customization.

I definitely would not bait the boys. I have accumulated quite an army of boys with issues. I love them, whether they need new hair, major cleaning, or even a new ear. :)

I wouldnt bait the boys either. Glory.. I dont know. I would try to sunfade her first.

G1s will continue to become fewer and fewer as time goes on -- many get thrown out, destroyed, lost, or collected by people like us... etc.

This is so true. Now we think its ok to bait ponies with minor problems. How about 20 years from now? We don't know how our "good condition" ponies look then. Who knows if they're going to get cancer etc too. We don't have unlimited supply of G1 ponies.

The boys are definitely not bait! Glory I wouldn't like to see baited either but she is far more common so it wouldn't be quite as bad (just save her tail if you do bait her...another Glory out there could use it!)

I think the majority of customizers go with G3's (they are easily attainable and dirt cheap) and G4's (again easy to get and very cheap, especially main 6 ponies).

I agree that baiting the boys isn't the best idea, people want them in their collections very much. I do like to use G1's for customs sometimes, but those are usually the ponies full of regrind or cancer, seriously hurting ponies that people sell on the arena for .50-$1 each.

Okay thanks! I just wanted to see what people considered as bait. These are just doubles of ponies I have that I am going to be selling. I am contemplating selling my entire collection but I decided to just clear out all of the doubles and triples before I start going at my collection. I wouldn't even know how much to ask for boys in that condition.

The boys are generally still in the $8 - $10 range with some issues, sometimes even when they are quite baity.

Yes, even in that condition they all look like they have lovely hair and I'm sure another collector would like them for armies or just display. :o)

For future reference if you right click the pic and click properties then copy the Address (url) and then paste it into {img width=300}paste your link in the middle here {/img}  be aware that you have to replace the {} brackets with this kind [] I can't explain using the proper ones or all you will see is a box with an x.
