Nostalgia + hatred for the quality of the new line is not helping in keeping prices sane.

I am tempted to haul all of my Ponies onto eBay to see if I get any hits on this but knowing my luck they'll all end at $3 each.

I totally agree, and I don't think it's just for the holidays.

It seems the last two years it's been climbing, perhaps with the giant influx of new fans.
I am constantly disappointed over prices on many venues, not just eBay.
And, no, I don't consider myself a cheapskate I have paid well over what a pony is worth if it matches my expectations, so I don't necessarily subscribe to the idea that everything must be sold at rock solid prices.

The thing that drives me nuts with the arguement that "no one is buying at those prices" is that they still affect the market. If you constantly see a specific pony listed at a ridiculous BIN price, and everyone else price checks against other matching items on eBay, then all of a sudden a $20 pony that is constantly being relisted at $30 doesn't look like such a bad price (especially to people not familiar with pricing).
It drives the market up and up by default.

Also as others have said time of year contributes not to mention there are more collectors now than every before so for almost all ponies there is an increased demand right now.

Okay, there is seriously a person with a Medley listed for $20.  Seriously.  If that's not bad enough, someone has used acne cream / removezit on her and she has MAJOR bleach spots ALLLLLL over her.  All for the LOW price of $20!

Personally I find ponies their cheapest around Christmas.. why?? because normally people have other things to spend their dollars on. I've snagged some bargins in the past around December unfortunately I wont be pony shopping these holidays   I think overall prices have increased a little since I began 10 yrs ago but possibly due more to an increase in collectors with the new show playing a bit of a part in that.

I understand too. I just go NOPE as i see a pony full of smooze and haircut, and then the price is like 19$. No no. Silly ebay sellers.
