yepppp... i bet i could still pull out a recorder and play hot cross buns... ok well maybe that also has something to do with playing clarinet and bass clarinet thorough jr high and highschool xD but still. all i remember about recorder lessons in 5th grade was hot cross buns xD

I wonder if they still do that? My son is only in 4th, he goes to the same elementary school i did. I guess ill find out next year xD. Good thing I still have my recorder.

Gosh I remember when we got the fancy recorders with the case and I was like, THIS IS AWESOME, LOOK AT ME. Now I hear a recorder and I want to smash things. The poor teachers during those weeks...

To jog your memory..

All anyone has to do is just mention the word recorder, and im instantly reminded of that high pitch, almost dog whistle frequency sound... and to add to that memory, its never just one recorder in my mind, its always like a group of them and some how no ones recorder sounds the same and theres always that one kid who provides an even higher pitched whistle in the middle of the "song" xD

Nope never did. I did play the piano for ten years and the trombone for six. Wife played the flute. I don't remember music class as a tiny kid, but I think we mostly sang no recorders. I think when my sis was young they did because the kids had to bring like five bucks to buy one.

Oh yes.  Hot Cross Buns dominated my third grade life for the entire year
God, I was TERRIBLE though! I could hardly play anything, and I would always accidentally make this awful shrieking noise with it.  I actually made my music teacher cry because the horrible shrieking sound ruined our Christmas concert.  I felt terrible!!  He retired the next year...

Yeah! Those were the most exciting music classes. Our recorders were a very dark brown with white tips, and were kept in red cases. Sometimes we got to play the recorders at the end of class as a reward. The only thing I did not enjoy about them was washing them out after class. But, at least they would be free of germs and cooties for the next user!

My brother got a sparkly green recorder because he enjoyed playing the recorder so much in music class. I would secretly sneak into his room once and awhile when he wasn't there and play his recorder!

hot cross buns. *twitch*

I don't recall having to buy one-- in fact I think we used the school ones, and that really grossed me out. :/ (I don't remember washing them).

We did Recorder in 5th grade.  I remember that because I was already learning clarinet.  I had picked up playing Viola the year previous as well.  So not only could I read music, well, let's just say that recorder takes a whoooooole lot less air than a clarinet.  So, I was constantly overblowing the thing, and the worst thing was the music, yes, hot cross buns, was utterly pedantic, and far easier than the stuff I was already reading in my first few months of clarinet playing.  Which, I still play clarinet, by the way.  Jeez, that was now 15 years ago.  I'm so ooooooooooooooolllllllllllllddddddddd.

Oh yes :) I was incredibly proficient on the recorder! We got to move up to the treble(?) recorder at age 10, which was very impressive at primary school lol!

ROFL I guess its good i started playing clarinet the year after recorder lessons. xD I never even thought about how that might affect that, but yeah id probably be a bit over enthusiastic as well.

I'm not sure which option to pick. I briefly took recorder lessons at primary school, but I got kicked out because I kept forgetting my recorder.

We sure did. That same song too, only with finnish lyrics. Though mostly it was a contest at who can make the most horrifying sound with their recorder.
