I picked out a lovely pumpkin at a pumpkin patch a few weekends ago. But there's really no point in me carving it as no one will see it but me! Still... I probably will XD

Your pumpkin is soooo cool! I love how evil it looks!
Halloween is by far one of my favorite holidays, though it isn't celebrated much in France unfortunately... So no pumpkin carving this year :/

Great pumpkins! We carved one, our daughter painted one, and then we lined them up with dd pretending to be a third "grumpy pumpkin". Here's a very bad picture:

I am not a talented pumpkin carver, but I think I got the point across.

That painted pumpkin looks really cool. I like how it transitions from black on top to orange on the bottom. I might have to try that next year.

Your daughter's grumpy face is adorable!

Yes, I just finished up about an hour ago.  My workplace is having a pumpkin carving contest and they supplied us each with a pumpkin.  They're due the 30th and then we will see who wins.

^^ we actually don't carve pumpkins at our house, we have a different sort of tradition. My hubby and I go to the store/farmers market/agarama ect and we each select our own pumpkin. Rules are that each pumpkin must be about the same size. What you are looking for is a pumpkin that you think will survive the longest. We put our pumpkins on the porch and see who's pumpkin last the longest. The key is to find a pumpkin that is not scratched or bruised as to this will shorten the life of your pumpkin. We've had some last through till May and others go till August. We both like winning so we had to make the rules of no sabotaging the others pumpkins with bugs, pin holes, bacteria (I work in a lab) and stuff like that.

Its pretty fun but it does get pretty gross when they go. They usually rot from the inside and rupture and hiss with gas and goo. Looser has to clean Both pumpkins up. :3

We did think about coloring on our pumpkins with sharpies this year but I'm not sure how that would affect my chance at winning, I don't know what sharpie does to pumpkin flesh after six months. ....and I really don't wanna pick up pumpmush this year.

So I guess long story short, no decorating but rotting!

Thank you!  It was my first time trying a stencil.  I found it online and printed it, then went and bought the little saw.  It was pretty hard and took like 3 hours, but it looks cool.  :)

I finished my carving yesterday.  My second year of pumpkin carving, and while I'm Cumberbatch skills wise, I'm pretty happy with how they came out.

Might need to take another photo of this one, because it's a cruddy one, and this is the pumpkin that I love most.  Jack Skellington.

This one is just a scary face, though I was kind of scary Cheshire Cat inspired.

Witch Face, I think it would look better with a hat, but still it's kind of funny.

Well, sadly, I don't think I'll get my pumpkin carved this year, too much other stuff going on! So instead, I bring you: pumpkins of halloweens past

I prefer the non-lit version of this one. Definitely my favorite I've ever done. I wish I could have kept it, but I don't think I could have done those fine details as crisply on an artificial pumpkin. (The ones they sell now are much harder than the ones you used to be able to get 4-5 years ago.)

Wow.... these are seriously cool. Like Kiwimlp said, Halloween isn't huge in our country (but I think it is certainly growing in popularity in the city where I live).

My daughter (5) is asking me questions about it and I'm having a hard time answering them without being a bit grudging, actually, as I've had trick or treaters trash my gardens before today

However, I was telling her about pumpkins this morning and she was fascinated. I said when she got home from school we could google some to look at... well, looks like I have just found the perfect thread  ^.^
