I used to have a beautiful big puffy black cat named Merlyn. His special talent was putting people to sleep. Didn't matter what time of day, how much coffee you'd had, how energetic you felt, if he wanted you to be asleep, you were asleep. He could do it from across the room even.

He passed away New Year's Eve 2009 and I miss him very much even though I have a most wonderful toasted marshmallow kitty now. I've just discovered that I don't have any pictures of him on this computer. I'll have to track one down and post later.

Cat in a bath! Is Slick a bengal?

I love all the black kitties!

Here is ours- OLIVE  - she is a wacky kitty- she has cerebral hypoplasia- so she is clumsy- I also think she may have brain damage because she is unusually lacking in intelligence... but SOOOO SWEET!  She is seriously the most cuddly sweet cat you will ever meet...

here she is with her bff-

Here is the most AWESOME cat we met on vacation in Vieques, Puerto Rico-   I named him Jamon cuz he loved to eat bits of ham that I sneaked him (before getting him some plain ole cat food) - I would have taken him except I think he was someone's pet...

My kitty is named Stella, and she acts more like a roommate over a cat XD You know she likes you because she will at least lay in the doorway of a room if you are around lol though she has gotten a LOT better than when I first got her about three years ago. Now she'll actually lay on your lap if she's cold. Anyway, pictures!

My favorite picture that I took last Christmas. She hung out under the tree a lot.

And just for fun.... Noodle Kitty! No cats were harmed in the making of this picture (the noodle was fully cooled). She has a tendency to beg for all kinds of food so I finally gave in. She was not as amused as I was (she got a real treat later for her patience and to convince her that she did not want to eat my face in the middle of the night)

i think alot of black cats get left in shelters as people like other colours more an people think they are bad luck , i know stupid huh ! >_<  the next cats i get will be from a shelter not a breeder ! and i will get a black one !

It's true! Black cats and black/white cats are the least likely to get adopted. I learned this in a very sad way when I worked at a shelter. It's very good to show the black kitties some love.  :lovey: I made a point when I decided to adopt a second kitty to look for a black or black/white one.

Sugarplum adopted us, tbh - it was mid-December (2000!) and freezing, mom held the door open for her, and she kind of made an inspection of the house before deciding she'd stay.

I saw one shelter where the adoption fee was cut in half if you took a black cat.  It's such a shame too - our black cats have had the sweetest personalities of just about any of our kitties.

To answer questions, yes, Slick likes water.  Especially MY bath water, which is what he was busy ruining in that picture.  No, he is not a Bengal that we know of.  I found him in a storm drain when he was a baby, so I doubt he has any regal ancestry.  ;)  Although he does wail a lot.  A LOT.

Black cats, you say? Don't mind if I do!

Jinx was my first black cat. He passed away in 2006. He was an awesome guy.

Poe is my oldest at 13 years old. He can be cranky, but he's pretty cool, too. He hates the cold.

Zoey is my sweet little Burmese mix. Very chatty, trustworthy, and playful:

Grey is the only non-black cat that currently lives with me. It's cool though--he was fostered with a bunch of black kittens before I adopted him! :)

I LOOOVE this whole thread!!
Most of the cats I had throughout my life have been black, and i'm keeping with tradition :)

This is Aska (Ash, in Icelandic) - kitty love of my life. I adore her so completely, she's the cuddliest, cutest, meowiest little kitty ever :) She is actually smokey, as her fur starts out white and turns black at the tips. My vet thinks she might be a persian mix, but since i found her on the street, we'll never know :)

Here she is with Nala, who is in Halloween mode :P

This is Penny, my mom's favourite :) Penny came to us as an adult already and is mostly just lounging around. She is very cuddly though, and adores my husband. She always sleeps next to his head.

Here she is, sharing the chair with Nala, probably against her will :P

And this is Skuggi (Shadow), a gorgeous guy we were fostering, he is huge but a complete scaredy cat. He looked just like a black panther :)

This is Aska with Nói, another boy we were fostering, who seems to be looking for a new home again already :(

And for the end, my three silly girls playing with a ribbon :lovey:
