My Second Custom - Night Elf Druid

   This is only my second custom, but I think it totally blew away my first! It's modelled on Night Elf Druids from the game World of Warcraft. Unfortunately she's not for sale because I made a huge mistake. I had read that if you cook a pony with polymer clay you have to do it at a lower temp and for less time. Well, I did that, but her mane split - like, completely split - from the first root at the front right to the last root at the back, on both sides. It's not immediately noticable, but if you brush her hair, it gets pulled out. Bright side, it's easily pushed back in, and if you squeeze her neck while you brush it, it doesn't budge at all. But because of this I don't think I'd be able to sell it at all.

I handcrafted the feathers and leaves of her shawl, and there's a small chain that connects both sides of it. I crafted her new ears, and did my best to match the colours (I wasn't confident enough to give a pony a full-body paint, so I bought a pony in a relevant colour - Night Elven skin are shades of purple - and tried to match the paint).

I'm so proud of her, and I can't say I'm all that broken up about not being able to sell her because I'm quite happy to keep her myself. I have started work on another pony since, with polymer clay again, and this time I was far more careful about cooking her, but it went much worse, as far as splitting down the face itself. Needless to say, I'm moving to apoxy sculpt and getting myself a starter airbrush kit for full body paints at Christmas. It's a damn shame, but I think I'll be okay. Practise makes perfect. I got lucky and found someone selling 11 amazing condition ponies on Ebay for £18, so I've got plenty to practise on!

I have yet to play WOW but from experience it looks pretty masterful to get it close to concept art! Well done!

Very lovely, it's a shame about her hair, making customs is definitely a learning experience, I'm sure that there are some sculpting customizers that may be able to provide some insight into how you can fix that hairline

She's lovely - bummer about her mane but she'll be a great pony for your own collection!  Or you never know, someone might love her enough to overlook the flaw!

I do think it's possible that someone could overlook the flaw, but in truth, I don't mind if she stays with me ^^ my first one was awful but there's sentimental value, and this is my second, but it also has sentimental value for being the first one to work out that well Still, I'd be willing to sell it if someone wanted it that badly, but she's quite happy on my shelf, too

And yes, it is a learning process, and I certainly won't make this mistake again. I'll probably make another mistake instead still, what it boils down to is whether or not you have fun doing it, and I certainly do!
