Captain America Work in Progress
« on: October 19, 2013, 03:06:56 PM »
Just wanted to share my work in progress; she's going to be a present for my sister in law for Christmas. It's a giant (brush and style maybe?) one. Still have so much to do. I'm not very good at customs yet, but I am pretty pleased with her so far. I still have to smooth colors, tidy up some lines, and of course root her new hair in.

I wondered if anyone had advice for making a shield to go with her? I was thinking out of Miliput but wasn't sure if I'd need any kind of armature for it. I'd like it to be removable from the pony, and not sculpted on.

Thanks for looking and any advice about the shield you might have!

Oh, I can't wait to see her rerooted!  Very cute!

As far as the shield goes, I don't know much about creating armature frames for sculpting, but you could always attach a hair tie/rubber band to the back of it that would let it be secured to the leg but still come off.  I've also never taken apart one of the big G3.5s before, but if the legs are hollow, you might be able to glue a magnet down in there, then sculpt one into the shield, which would allow it to be detachable :)

For the shield, I'd look at ready-made objects that you could paint, mini-frisbee perhaps or even the right round coaster?

Lookin good so far!

I was thinking this as well :) And I think a magnet to attach it is a great idea.

Thank you all for the compliments and advice on the shield. The magnets are a great idea- and so is using a coaster for the shield. I didn't think of that!!! I have both those things lying around, so I'm going to give it a shot. I posted the updated version tonight. I finally got her hair all rooted. It took 8 bloody hanks of hair. 0_o
