When painting, do you ladies use primer when you're doing cutie marks (TM)? Does it help control streakiness? If you use it, is there one you like?

Nope, I don't use any kind of primer. Streakiness seems to be more of a paint issue for me. If its too thick I end up with streaks.
Some pony plastic seems to have a bit more 'grip' than others so sometimes it can take a few coats to get good coverage though.

I don't use any either. I don't think it helps reducing the streaks, like Jenny said it's more about the paint consistency, and layers. Choosing the right paintbrush is also important - too small a brush will result in streaks; same if the brush is too hard. Soft and flexible bristles give more even results and are easier to control. :)

Hmmmm, in that case, does anyone want to recommend any particular brush? Is there some brush, paint combination that will result in paint going where you place your brush, exactly there, and only there? With no streaking/beading? Getting it to the right consistency so that it comes off the brush well, without being a giant glob?

The only ponies I have beading issues on are G4s. I find it helps to give the area a very thorough cleaning with acetone first to make sure there are no oils on the plastic.

Sometimes lightly sanding or roughing up the area to paint helps. I've also painted a base colour under a symbol as well, to get a specific look.

I find emery boards are good. Can't wait to get going on some customs!
