Puffy sticker repair and preservation
« on: October 16, 2013, 04:33:05 AM »
I have a baby sea pony sticker and Megan & Sundance sticker and both have small cracks in the top layer. Is there a way to seal these cracks so they don't grow worse? Can I use clear nail polish topcoat or some sort of glue? They are stuck to wax paper at the moment while I decide what to do with them. Thanks for any help or ideas!

Wishlist - I'm back on (semi-) active buying again... can't buy everything on my wish list all at once (yay, back-to-school and tuition fees), but I am still looking to plump up my collection a bit more: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,380638.0.html

I would not use nail polish it anything it  will cause the sticker to get worse over time, it has a different chemical make up as well as a different rate of expansion and contraction.  The best thing is to get some archival pages and just store then in there.

This is what I'd do.  It took it 30 years to get to this point, so if you take care of it right it's probably not going to get much worse.

Unfortunately the surfaces are rather temperamental and the paint and coating could react oddly to adding something.

I would suggest some card stock and then seal it in a little archival bag. In better words prevent the actual front from being moveable or touched. It will still display fine but it will be protected. The damage has probable been from it being stuck on things and then peeled off again or played with or moved. So simply stopping it getting any kind of tough treatment or excessive handling will prevent it getting worse.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
