G3 customisers, I have a problem with glue!
« on: October 14, 2013, 09:11:41 AM »
You know how it is...that huge old hard glue blob you get that covers most of the inside of the neck and fills up the inside of both ears ><

How do you get rid of it? I don't customise G3s very often, and this is the worst I have ever seen it....literally a quarter of the head seems to be solid with glue. It needs to come out though, elsewise I can't rehair.

I've tried softening it with boiling water, which has meant I got a few shavings clear, but I'm starting to get really sore fingers now from having to dip the head back in the hot water. Plus it's almost time for bed (it's after midnight and I want some sleep).

Help please!
Thank you *wyvernchick* for my lovely avvie!

I've heard others recommend stomping on the pony head (sounds brutal) but with all that glue, you're bound to want to relieve some stress that way  :)

Seriously. Stomp the head. It works. It really does. Jump up and down on it while yelling even.

I sometimes pour acetone into the head to loosen the glue. Make sure you do it over a bowl or the trash so that any that leaks out doesn't ruin other stuff. Usually that works.
I've never stomped on a head but I put the back of the head along the plug holes against the edge of a table or counter and push really hard. Helps to break the glue off the inside of the head.

Good luck!

The last G3 I had worked on with glue in her ears I think I used a pushpin several times in the hair line to loosen it then used pliers to wedge between the plastic and glue (note the glue extended beyond the ears and made it hard to get some hair out!)
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

Heh, I feel like stomping, let me tell you!

I don't have any pure acetone...IDK if nail polish remover will be strong enouh but I'll have a go with some of that. Elsewise, it'll be stompy stomp time.

Thanks everybody.

Stomp.  If there's no small children around, swear at it a little too.  Seems to work.

Soak it in aceone and reapply with nail glue! The stuff that comes with false nails. You can buy it in the makeup section anywhere. Careful! it bonds to your skin and only comes off with acetone. It's so strong and dries within seconds.

LOL, I can't stomp on her...she's LOOKING at me! And I certainly can't swear, cos my daughter will start copying me (she's 20 months old).

Thankfully, I managed to persuade my OH to *ahem* lift a partly used can of solvent remover from his workplace. He's a plastic moulding technician, and that does come in rather handy sometimes.....
Thank you *wyvernchick* for my lovely avvie!
