Bamboo Wacom pen and tablet
« on: October 12, 2013, 02:08:12 PM »
So my friend just bought me a used Bamboo tablet and it didn't come with any software or anything. It's working as a mouse, but when I try using it in any program (tried gimp, paint, and paint tool sai) it won't draw. Is there something wrong with it or do I need the software? I have no idea what I'm doing I have never owned a tablet before, but he spent $130 on it and now I'm freaking out :(

You need the drivers (a piece of software that tells the computer how to interface with the tablet, basically.)

You can get any of those from the Wacom website directly.  Tablets usually come with a hardcopy on CD but it's best to get the most updated versions anyway, so no real loss there.

Make sure you get the right ones for your device and OS.

Head over to the Wacom site and download the drivers for it. That should solve your problem. It should be free to download the software.

Or not.

Im not sure about the bamboo but I have an older waccom and it does NOT need the drivers to work.  The drivers only add things in like sensitivity and eraser.

Is your light on?  If not, plug it in and out.  If this is happening it means the tablet is on its way out and if this is whats happening I would try to return it.

Depends on the model of tablet and operating system.  Some won't function with the pen at all, others will work partially.  Still a good idea to try installing the proper drivers before assuming the tablet itself is busted.
