What to do with split mane plug holes?!?
« on: October 11, 2013, 09:46:28 PM »
Help needed!
I've recently received a half bait/half done custom from another pony fan. The original owner only got as far as rehairing her and I had every intention of finishing off what she started (but then I changed my mind, typically! And want to give her a whole new totally different look!)
The only problem is, the original owner must have pushed too much hair through the plug holes and now they are nearly all split!

I would have needed to rehair her anyway as the hair was all falling out as soon as I unwrapped my poor pony. Please help as I want to make her a pretty as she possibly can be again!

(Il be using different colour hair through out her mane if that makes any difference to the method I need to use?)

Thanks in advance pony friends!
Xxx

The pink, aqua and white you see in the background are the colours I will be using you can see in the photo. I making a candy princess girl so I may even want to curl her hair, twist it ect and add things in her hair too. So if the hair line is not totally perfect and can disguise with all the trillion of accessories she will be covered in!

(Resin bows, pearls, feathers, resin candies and buttons all in pretty pastel colours!)

Thanks again in advance for any advise!

Xxx

This is a pretty common problem really.  I typically use the rerooting tool method, but any method will work.  Create a few knotted large plugs (like, 2 or 3 x the normal size) and carefully place them in the larger split, spacing them as needed to give it an even look.  Carefully apply glue from the inside, multiple small applications is better than huge gobs that can spill out of the split.  Add plugs/glue as necessary, handling gently until finished.  The main thing to watch out of is "clumped" areas of hair.  Hope this helps!

I am wondering if a method I saw on a DA page might work.  It was for ripped MH head holes but maybe worth a try for here?  They used several thin layers of Liquid Fusion glue and then carefully repoked holes and haired.

Ugh, I split holes all the time on rehairs.  I pretty much do what CSA suggested and it always looks nice for me.  :)
