Taking apart a sewing machine table?
« on: October 08, 2013, 09:13:18 AM »
I recently acquired a sewing machine table. It belonged to my grandmother, and it has her sewing machine that gosh she used the rest of her adult life. It's a nice desk and has a Singer inside.  I was measuring, and I think my sewing machine would fit in there. Problem is I'm not really sure how to take the other off. I was looking on the underside and noticed a wooden board and some screws. I'm assuming I start underneath? Do modern sewing machines even screw down on the tables properly? I'd like to get my sewing machine in there, but I also don't want to damage the table or Singer. I know it has to come out since I couldn't imagine if it needed repairs it being stuck to the table. I'm just a little lost and then worried once I get the thing out my own won't go in. Anyone had to do this before? Lol, want to do it without damaging all these things since even the Singer that will need repair work has sentimental value.  -_-

Hmm ... good question, and sadly it's one I don't know the answer to.  Hopefully someone does!

Most of the heavier duty modern ones have screw options to fit into the sewing tables like the old ones. If you're unsure of what yours can do, find a sewing machine repair shop or JoAnns and ask them questions about your model and the one that you have. Sometimes you get lucky and find the one person in that shop that actually knows everything.

And yes, start underneath. Make sure there is no needle on the foot (because God forbid... >_<) and that anything moderately loose is taken off before you do anything. It's good if you have an extra pair of hands handy because some models of table require stupid stuff. Like holding the carriage at a bad angle to relieve the pressure on the screws so adjustments can be made.
Creatively cute and proud of it!  Have a very good day, [you]!  ^.^

I'm making custom cute pony plushies and have set up an Etsy store called Ponies A'More! Ponies + More + LOVE! :inlove:
