Rainbow Dash??

Hey what's up with Rainbow Dash? A long time ago when the G3's came out she was an Earth pony. Now after I google I find she is a pegasus? Is she now a pegasus? That is weird.

Yes, she's a pegasus now.  She also has a brighter rainbow color scheme and a differently-shaped cutie mark.  Scootaloo was also changed into a pegasus (and a filly), and G3.5 Cheerilee was changed from a filly into an adult pony.

This is totally normal.  It happened in G1 as well, lots of babies are not the same as the mothers - the TAFs for example.

And before that she was changed from a unicorn into an earth pony. Such things happen across generations.

It's easier to just view them as different ponies, who happen to have the same name. It's not that the pony changed, she's an unrelated pony.

After they changed Cheerilee from a purple unicorn in early g3 she looks to be very similar to a g3 pony before that named Cherry Blossom. They sure do like to change things!

There are also two G1 Twilights, a unicorn and a pegasus.  It was kind of funny because because someone asked on YouTube why Twilight wasn't a unicorn on one episode, and a G1 purist said it's because "this isn't friendship is magic" (so obviously, not a very well informed purist  )

I need to check it again, but I think there might have been more than one Toola-Roolas or however you spell it...

oh yah, toola roola got a celtic to artistic splash makeover ;-) but I guess she was fine with it to make it as a "core" pony

I have to admit it was funny reading the name of rarity at first and thinking back to a filly who almost made rainbows disappear and even now I am wondering when the hay is her sister gonna be a starsong substitute and get her singing cutie mark... but in the end, it's all good for all the mix-ups in names and such that there are still my little ponies around  = I don't mind sharing with my kids and having old and new ponies all playing together at my house since half the time they get their own non-Hasbro names

Rarity changed from a pink unicorn with multi-coloured hair to a white unicorn with purple hair. Applejack now mirrors her G1 self (orange with blonde mane) instead of her G3 one. I'm trying to think of any other big G3 -> G4 changes but I think they've been covered! Pinkie Pie is still very pink and very earth pony.

I've never been too fond of the Rainbow Dash mutation. I thought the pastel colors were prettier and more unique!
