EQG Dolls in Australia
« on: September 26, 2013, 08:33:29 PM »
I went for a walk around my local shops a few days earlier, and Equestria Girls dolls have finally started hitting the shelves down under. I found the deluxe versions of Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash, as well as the Doll & Pony sets with Celestia and Twilight Sparkle, all in Toys R Us for $30 each. Then, in K-Mart, I saw the basic dolls for Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity and Twilight Sparkle for $20 each. There were only two of each basic doll on the shelf, so they might be packed in cases of eight. In TRU, there were three each of the deluxe FS/RD dolls, and about four each of the Doll & Pony sets. If any other Aussie EQG fans have been waiting as impatiently as I have, now is the time to start looking!

I picked up one each of Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash. One of the Fluttershy dolls on the shelves seemed to be missing her flower bracelet accessory, so I picked up one that I saw had one on her wrist. Then when I was unpacking her, there was something rattling around the bottom of the package. It was... another flower bracelet?! My Fluttershy must be a flower thief, stealing a bracelet from the doll that was missing one!

The flowers are mine, all mine! Yay!

It seems that the only difference between the American release and the Australian release of these dolls is that we don't get the stickers or the pamphlet included with the club card.

Putting the unrelated info under a spoiler, no longer relevant.

Spoiler
Dash is still in her packaging, as I was distracted halfway through unpacking by what I think may be another error in my Fluttershy doll. Does anyone else have a Fluttershy with some red plugs rooted at the base of her hair? I've been looking at photos online but can't see any colour variations. She has two red plugs on the right and one on the left side of her head. One of the red plugs is also the same length as her longer "tail" piece of pink hair, despite being rooted nowhere near the tail. A multitude of pictures taken during pony doll spa time:

She shed a lot of hair during combing, including a big hunk of red.

One on the left.

My camera had a little trouble photographing the colour difference nicely, so I looped a red plug over the pink.

Long red plug is looooong.

What does everyone think? Have you seen any Fluttershy dolls with red hair like this?

yeah, mine has the highlights too, it looks like the shade of hair called Sugarberry on Dollyhair, I think it's highlights, but its weird that they hide em in the back like that. I think AJ has an extra color like that too, but I don't own her yet.
When the Equestria Girls dolls show up in stores and you end up with unneeded doubles, PM me! I'll buy them!/i]

Huh, that's odd. I was aware that Twilight has pink streaks and Applejack has red streaks in their hair, but I didn't know that Fluttershy had them too. The colour is really bold, it looks the same as Rainbow Dash's red hair colour. None of the photos of Fluttershy I saw online looked like they had streaked hair. Now I'm wondering if Rarity and/or Pinkie Pie have different colours as well? It really looks more like an error, being so sparse and hidden down the back.

Oh my, Fluttershy is cute! I've seen those red streaks show up in several threads now, so I guess they're a legitimate thing and not just an error. They are pretty sparse for highlights (lowlights?) but as long as the whole head of hair isn't red, I don't think I can complain.

I saw these a few weeks back at Big W but forgot to post about them here  I can't help with the hair thing, though! Haven't seen any Fluttershys, yet.

Mine has pieces of red in her hair too, at the bottom of her hairline by the rubber band. I thought that was weird too!

Saw the basic dolls and the Twilight Sparkle and Celestia with mini ponies at both Big W and K-Mart today, I really want deluxe Rainbow Dash and/or Fluttershy though, may have to check out Toys R Us.

Awesome, looks like the dolls are getting as wide a release as the regular ponies. And thanks everyone for the hair colour information!

They are pretty sparse for highlights (lowlights?)

Thats great :) They really are turning up all over now!

The red highlights are odd but with them showing up in every doll, I have swung from thinking it unintentional to assuming its deliberate. Although its purpose...I am still at a loss on. Unless originally she was supposed to have her hair styling in such a way the plugs of alternate colour were required perhaps.

We don't have a Toys 'R Us in Tasmania, but the deluxe Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash seem to be hanging out at Toyworld instead. Deluxe Celestia and Twilight seem to be much more readily available, at Big W, Target and (to some extent) Kmart.
