Well since english is not the native language for any of us euro countries, the slang is not going to be in english either. I suppose there is at least as many slang words for euro as there are languages in europe. We sometimes say "ege" in Finland.

In German we don't have a special slang for it. But many people still use the word "Mark" LOL
Sometimes you can hear the word "Mäuse" (mice) used for money.

Seconding Doedeardarling on languages = there must be plenty of slang words but I doubt they make much sense to an English speaker. I'm a Finn and usually say "ege" or "eero." I quite often use "fyffe" for money in general and call US$ "taala."

I think we have a lots of words for money itself but no special word for euro - prolly sometimes ppl still call it teuro (what means expensive euro - the t comes from the german word "teuer" what means expensive)

Also some ppl call it euronen - dunno why I think it sounds stupid :D

Seriously?  Last time I was there, the mark 'was' the currency so im surprised to hear that some are still calling it that.

I don't know about slang for words but I do know that there are many dialects that alter from the official one.  Using Italy as an example, Sicilians have more of one and tend to throw their words around (l'aqua for example).  Its to the point where you need to listen carefully to someone talking in the official language to understand what they are saying (its a bit easier on me since I actually took Italian in highschool but for dad, whos grown up with the Sicilian dialect all his life..its a bit of a challenge but doable)

I *think* the dialect gets tighter up north, but don't quote me on it. Going off of memory and ofcorse family experience^^

I'm sure it'd be so many different things, as many different languages and cultures are in Europe.

If I ever go to Germany again I may have to use the word teuro! XD I need to continue to brush up on my German. It's such a beautiful language!

Brits using quid to refer to pounds is like Americans using the word "buck" to refer to a dollar.

we're the same... bucks for dollars. Or we call it gold ($1, $2 coins) or silver (5, 10, 20, 50 cent coins). For money we say dosh, or dough as well.

Oh, shoot.  Looks like I quoted the wrong thing.  It should still be clear though--In Germany, they used to have Marks for currency, before they switched to Euro.  Im just surprised people still call them marks sometimes o.o

Well when we have UK peeps over, there are quite a few who refer to the euro as funny money. It's different from theirs and with all the tiny coins, sometimes difficult to count.

Not that suprising really, lots of people still do a small conversion in their head euro to franks. Large amounts often still get quoted in the old currency. The euro hasn't been around THAT long :p (1999)
