Dark Bodied Bow Tie vs Regular
« on: September 10, 2013, 09:46:12 PM »
Might I pick your brains??

I'm thinning out a couple of Bow Ties from my herd, and I wondered if there happens to be any significant difference in value between the Dark Bodied variant of Bow Tie and her regular US release?  (and a PC too, please!   :))

Below is a photo which shows the girl in question that I am thinking of parting with (she's up against a regular Bow Tie):

I am pretty sure she is the darker variant but if I can have people's opinions so I can be certain I am selling her as a true example, it would be appreciated! The photo is showing them both up a bit lighter than they are but please note the bows are pink on the regular and white on the darker, so that dark one has has been subjected to sun/fading at some point (yet she is still decidedly darker than the regular one).

Edit: I should note, too, that the eyes on the darker one are a really dark purple compared to the regular one

If I'm not mistaken, you have the 2 different releases there - the "long hair" version (light) and "short hair" version (dark) - I forget which year each was released, but one was Year 2 and one was Year 3... I don't know if the values differ... Bow Tie isn't going for the same prices are her counterpart Applejack, I dunno if they're mint maybe... $6-12? I could be way off it's been a long time since I've purchased a Bow Tie outside of a lot of ponies.

Hey Sunshine!  Thanks for that  ;)

You're right - that is a long-hair Bow Tie (lovely curls long lost to abominable frizz that has now been tamed!) and the darker one is just the regular short hair (but dark bodied version). I think the long haired girls were year three  :)

I personally like the longer hair on her, but the darker body color, heh! They're both such lovely girls - but, I'm definitely not super confident on my PC, I see everything from $2-16 on eBay sold in the past...

I didn't know there was a dark bodied variant! I'd be interested to hear what you find out.  They are both lovely.

There are indeed different coloured bodies of Bow Tie but for me personally I don't think of them as variants per se. They are not deliberate or intentional. The shade differences in this pony tends to be a batch difference thing - think of the sheer number of Bow Ties manufactured, the number of countries she was released in, the long duration of time during which she was made [around 6 months minimum]. Blue/purple ponies always tend to show a wide range of colour differences because its the most unstable pigment hence why even at manufacture you can even get such a range of colour differences.

That all being said the short hair version you have here is clearly one of the darker coloured Bow Ties and so I am have no doubt someone out there will be on the look out for her with this darker body tone and may be more than happy to pay a little more than an average Bow Tie value in order to get one of that shade. I think she is really lovely this way :)

I've never had a darker bodied bowtie. Both my short and long haired versions have the lighter body color. I'd have to say I prefer the darker body color...

I have both dark and regular blue Bow Ties. They both have short hair. My regular one is from childhood. My dark blue one has developed 2 brown spots :( The flash lightened them both up a bit.

yeah these are how mine have always looked and i have been through many bow ties.
yr 2 was the darker blue short haired, she came out in the bubbles, seashell wave
yr 3 is the lighter blue curly hair, she came out with the tootsie, posey etc. wave
if the darker ones fade to light blue too the hair will tell you what year/wave they were in.
Sunshine, gorgeous pic :D if you are displaying them via year i would swap your AJ's & BT's around :)

I don't display them, lol so, eh. The way my list was set up had them in reverse order with the short hair being year 3... so, I dunno! But since they're just sitting side by side for the time being, I don't have to figure it out quite yet lol!
