Show me your FEATHERED friends!
« on: September 07, 2013, 02:03:20 AM »
I saw a thread earlier with gorgeous fishes, so I thought I'd try my luck with parrots and feathered friends!

Here's the feathered love of my life: Clover.
He's a lovebird hybrid (peach-faced lovebird x lutino peach-faced lovebird), and he's 6 now.
He loves hanging out on my shoulder, hijacking breakfast, and cuddle/nap time!

I don't have any pet birds, but I'm a huge bird lover. I spent the last 3 years as an Avian Keeper at my old zoo. My best friend there was Bandit:

I used to have parakeets, but they all passed away :( my 2 favorite ones were a white one named "Stevie" and a yellow one named "Sunflower"... I miss them both
I plan to (hopefully) get one or 2 for my 18th birthday  :satisfied:

Here's Corner Bird, the budgie. He was mine, then my sister and her husband took him, now I have him again, but she's taking him back today.

I do not have a bird, but I just had to say AWWWW! that is a cute bird, the sleeping picture made my heart melt, so adorable!!
this, this! that pic simply made me make those giggling baby sounds :3
(until my husband ordered me to stop  )

I used to have a lovebird for a couple of months when I was a child, they indeed are cute! I just love their faces, their beaks look as if they were smiling all the time :P mine (I called him Rose - it was only later when I learned he actually is a boy XD ) also loved to hang out on my shoulder, and I even have a pic of this (non-digital from the early '90s, so unfortunately I can't share :( if I ever find it I promise I'll scan it and share ^^ ). unfortunately my sister turned out to be allergic to him, and we had to bring him back to the breeder in the end :( whoever adopted her after me, and wherever he ended up after I bid farewell to him, I hope he had a good life...

I just noticed that! They do look like they are smiling! :)
I also had some birds when I was a pretty young. The only one I can really remember is Baby Bird who was a Quaker parrot. I remember him saying "pretty baby bird" all the time. Ahh, reminiscing.  :satisfied:

I don't have my own, but my uncle breeds them and when he leaves town, I hand feed them for him. I have a weaning baby right now, a yellow headed amazon, but no pics yet.
The pic shows the biggest batch I ever watched. The littlest was maybe 7 days old and the oldest was 15 weeks or so.

I love birdies.  I haven't owned any for a long time, but I grew up with Budgies.  I used to also care for a lot of birds when I did wildlife caring.

One day when I'm settled and not moving everywhere, and own my own place I hope to get a scarlet macaw.

My gosh these birds are all so lovely!  :inlove:
It's not every day I hear of people that have doves as pets! And even less, a friendly toucan at a zoo! [Totally OT, but Teddy, its so cool how your shirt and hair in that photo match your pony persona!]
Skitterbug, your conure is adorable! I love how bigger parrots (well pretty much bigger than a budgie, cockatiel, or lovebird), use their feet to hold things like food. I've always wondered why the smaller species don't do it...
Cuddlebuggy, those chicks are so incredibly cute! Must be tough having to wake up at night and feed such a large bunch though.

Awesome guys, keep them coming!  ;)

Awwww, thanks guys!
Hehe! Loona, we had the same issue with Clover at first, we were convinced he was a girl - until the vet told us out Clover is a guy. We still say "good girl" when he does good stuff though, so as not to confuse him too much. No worries about Rose, I'm sure he was well taken care of. I also had to leave some of my birds behind when I moved overseas. It was tough, but I'm sure they were well taken care of.

I used to have parakeets, but they all passed away :( my 2 favorite ones were a white one named "Stevie" and a yellow one named "Sunflower"... I miss them both

I've also had quite a few budgies, lovebirds and a mynah before. Some passed away, others I had to leave behind. It's always hard to loose a beloved pet. Do show them off if you get any for your birthday! Budgies are always so cute!

Here's Corner Bird, the budgie. He was mine, then my sister and her husband took him, now I have him again, but she's taking him back today.

He's got a pretty teal color on his tummy that I've never seen on a budgie! My Coco used to have a much brighter green. We do the same thing with Clover, when we're away from her we pass him on to his foster mom, who also loves him to bits! :) It's always comforting to know there's someone who loves him and can take care of him well.

OMG! YES! My dream is to one day own a Blue and Gold Macaw... Those are such gorgeous birds. I've always been attracted to them. But then I'm a bit divided as they require a lot of time and space (perhaps a bit more than an Amazon or a Conure lets say...). First I have to make sure I settle down as well, that's the priority.
