Pindot Mold!
« on: August 30, 2013, 03:48:15 PM »
I just bought a NSS Northstar with the worst case of pindot I've ever seen. I've tried hot water and foaming antibacterial soap, scraping and scrubbing, but to no avail. Normally if it's a little on the feet/legs I'd just leave her be, but it's all over, even on her eyes! That pose seems to be especially hard to get it off, too, my old Braided Beauty has a lot on her legs. It's like the vinyl is harder or something.

Any suggestions for this poor girl? I adore her otherwise, she's just such a pretty pony!!

Make a weak bleach solution with hot water, let her soak overnight and see how she looks in the morning.

A boiling Oxyclean bath worked for my G1 Applejack. It dries out the hair something fierce but doesn't seem to harm the paint. Be sure to put the powder in before bringing your pot up to temp or you'll have a serious mess on your hands. (firsthand fail) :|
Creatively cute and proud of it!  Have a very good day, [you]!  ^.^

She's not a Twinkle Eye so chlorine bleach shouldn't do any damage, even if it doesn't get all the mold/dirt out. I usually use 1 cup of bleach in a 3 gallon bucket and then fill it with hot water from the tap, so that's roughly a 2% solution.  To get rid of the chlorine smell faster dump out the bleach water in the morning and refill the bucket with cold water and let it soak for a while more.

A peroxide soak can be effective too, but you can't heat peroxide to help it get into the pores.

Thanks for the tips everyone... I'm going to try the bleach first and go from there. Yeah bec it was the one I got from you, but before I really looked she just looked grimy, so I get not noticing. I don't mind a challenge though, what I learn from her I can put to use on other ponies. I can't wait to get her looking great again!

Hmmmm I have a birthflower pony that's more pindot than vinyl, I will have to see if this bleach treatment makes a difference...

Be careful with the bleach :) But if it is really not shifting I would go with the oxy boil. After that go back to the scrubbing - straight away when the pony is still pliable and you should manage to get the dirt from the pores.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I got her from timpertie here, I didn't have much of a chance to go through them because of how many times I've had to move in the past! I can't wait to see how she and the others all turn out ^_^

I was able to get a lot of pindot mold off with a no name magic eraser and a lot of scrubbing. But i didnt want to scrub her eyes or cutie marks. So I`m going to try these methods. Thanks for the tips.
