brazil ponies... hair
« on: August 30, 2013, 02:28:52 AM »
Just wondering if anyone has had much success straighten hair (with a hot iron) of brazil ponies?
I don't expect a miracle but can it help a little?
Also are there any colours that you just would avoid putting heat on, I know the green from peruivans is a no go so just thought I would ask before I tempt fate  ;)

You can safely straighten all colors of Brazil hair.  ;)

I do it like I do all my other ponies' hair, just on a lower temp to be on the safe side.  Load up with conditioner and be careful, but you'll be fine!

awesome thanks you guys : ) is sugarberry red ok to straighten? I am a bit wary on the colour as I know it has the tendency to melt

Yupp I've used my straightener on my Brazilians and they have been great. You may have to do a few treatments depending on how bad the hair is. And I can't stress enough load up on conditioner and straighten with that on. Make sure the hair is very wet you don't want to straighten dry hair.
Good luck :)

I'll agree that straightening works wonders on Brazilian pony hair! I've straightened my Sugarberry with no trouble. Best of luck to you. :)

Don't have much experience with Brazilians, but the only one I had (Sugarberry AKA Pudim de Morango) had the coolest hair.
I used to give her "braid perms" all the time and the hair would straighten back just by washing it. I'd try with warm water first.

You can straight it without fear; I'd dare to say brazilian ponies' hair can take more heat than US ponies before melting.
Just be sure to use a LOT of conditioner since it does get pretty dry

thanks for all the info guys makes me feel better about doing it. Most of my brasilians have had hair cuts so it will be nice to get a few more mm by making there hair nice and smooth :  )

I actually use a wet muslin cloth when straighting hair, I wrap it around the base of the hair, clamp the straightners on it and then drag upward so the cloth is always over the ponies hair and the hair stays moist even if some areas a slightly lacking in condition :  ) I just wanted to be ultra sure with these girls i would hate from them to burn

I don't own any Brasilians, but what about the hair on Peruvians?  I just got a yellow/blue Medley with the most amazing afro going on in her mane and tail and I'd looooove to straighten it out.

You can use heat on the Peru ponies hair, but be careful. Make sure the hair is wet and has plenty of conditioner on and start on the lowest heat. I always test a few strands before I do the whole mane or tail.

A word of warning: the green Peru hair has a MUCH lower melting point than the other colours, it also seems to be the colour that goes frizzy too.
