Now, don't throw fakies--G4 restore?
« on: August 29, 2013, 06:10:25 PM »
So, I got these two in a lot of ponies:

Both have major damage. Twinkleshine has damage to her DS eye, plus assorted dirt and ink marks (haven't tried to clean her):

Feathermay has damage to her NDS eye, but is otherwise perfect:

These two are on the pricier side for G4's--I've seen them go for $20 in perfect condition. So, my question is, what should I do with them? Would restoring increase or decrease their value? And how would you price them in their current condition?

golly. i know i'd try to fix them. least if they were for my collection.
i'm not sure if you restore if it would lessen the value.
g4's are still so new. so hmmm ok not helpful at all

That's why I'm not sure, since they're still new. I'm only considering it for these (instead of baiting them) because they're on the rarer side. >_> Tbh if they're not worth much, I'm gonna go ahead and use them as bait, their body colors are uncommon and would make neat customs.

Those marks looks like they'd come away with some Lestoil/pine cleaner and some gentle work. Heck, I'd pay a few bucks for 'em as is, although I am biased toward brightly colored pegasi!

Oooh, I'll give that a try, thank you! My first instinct was carefully applied acetone. It's really the eyes that I'm more concerned about in the end...

I think you could restore them, you got mad skillz! And I adore Lestoil, I clean all kinds of stuff from ponies, Breyers, & other toys to laundry to getting bug guts off the car!

Personally I'd be a bit sad to see Feathermay baited - I know some people are super picky and want totally flawless ponies but I think a lot of people would be fine with her being that her flaw doesn't show when she's on display. Plus, yeah, these girls were only released internationally, right? Or at least Feathermay was? I'm sure someone would happily trade for/buy her from you.

I would not use them for bait as even with issues I am sure people will be happy to pay. Or you could perhaps trade them for multiple bait.

I would clean up the paint/stain marks on the body and leave the eyes alone initially. Offer them for half their normal value. If someone asks you to restore there eyes them charge a few dollars more.

Rubbing alcohol can take off some types of ink on G1s and G3s without damaging the paint, if that's something you want to try.
