Big buns!
« on: August 26, 2013, 10:52:27 AM »
So, I was wondering. What's the trick to get the hair to stay in a cute bun without having to use a rubber band? It makes it look a little.. tacky. :/

The only way I have found is with rubber bands, the trick is to use a clear band and tuck it inside where it isn't as easily seen if possible. You can probably make buns with pins too.

It is possible to do it with pins, but it just depends what look you're going for. A small, clear rubber band is your best bet for a sleek, simple bun.

I'm going for a Geisha/Japanese look with most of the hair draping around the neck. I figured I could do the clear band and then hide it with ornaments.

I use thread in a similar color to the hair. Wrap it around the base several times and tie it off, then trim off the ends.

On my Japanese inspired ponies I believe I used a clear band to first put the hair in a ponytail. Then once I had twisted it into the position I wanted I basically stitched it in place with clear fishing line type material.

big buns...lol! Well I don't use bands in mine, pins can help. However if you make sure to wind the pony hair tightly you can get it to go into a bun without anything.

I did try that, but it doesn't seem to stay well. I'm going to try the thread method too. :)
