Thanks everyone, after photos will definitely follow :) I've been trying to get the smell out all day to no avail, so have just popped the baits in the washing machine (inside a pillow case) as a test to see if it does the job without ruining their symbols or hair. If effective, I'll use the same treatment on the others, because even bicarb seems to have little impact. Wish me luck!

Good luck cleaning up these ponies! I hope you can remove the smoke smell.  You scored a great haul here that's for sure! I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the auction pages.  :lovey:

Thanks everyone! :) The big raincloud over this otherwise beautiful lot is the smokey smell, which just won't go away. Will this devalue them when I sell on? After 1/2 an hours clean on each pony (I cleaned about 20 today) the smell is still lingering, not as strongly but still definitely there.

I need need need to sell the ones I don't want in the next couple of weeks before I go to uni, so the patient kitty litter trick is not an option for me unfortunately. Will experienced collectors overlook this, knowing that with time they can get rid of the odour themselves, or will I get a lot less for my ponies? I simply do not have the time to leave 120 ponies in kitty litter for a month. Such a shame, as otherwise they're in beautiful condition! *damn you, tobacco*

Congratulations :D, I see a couple babies from my want list there so I'll keep an eye out ^^. You might be keeping those though as they are rare :).

Huge congrats, a few suggestions, get a tupperwear or plastic shoe box, fill it with baking soda and let the ponies sit in it and turn occasionally.  I have also read about folks having success with putting ponies in plastic bags with scented dryer sheets.

For me personally I will not buy smoke scented stuff as I am slightly allergic.

I think it would affect their price I'm afraid, though I'm not sure how much.

I recommend exposing them to fresh air for a few days. Maybe in the garage or in the shade in your garden (if it's secure - don't want stolen ponies).

I think my plan of action is to surface clean them all to perfection by the time I go to uni, leave them in tupperware containers with kitty litter, and then check on them when I'm back at Christmas. Hopefully three months will be more than enough time to absorb the smell. What a pain though - I was originally planning on selling some within the next week!

Id still buy a pony if it smelt of tobacco, I am an ebay stalker so alot of my ponies come to me smelling musty or tobacco flavoured, and if I walk past someone smoking in the streetm I get an instant 2 hour migraine lol, and I am an ex smoker?? I dont think it devalues them personally but other people might not be as meh! about it as me
