Customs (my first!) Updated 8/21 - Carousel Princess has hair :)

I had a lot of fun working on my first customs, and learned a lot (mostly what not to do next time LOL). 

First up is "Galaxia" the unicorn.  I sculpted her hooves, feathers, horn, beard and "collar" and did a full body repaint with acrylics and Pearl-Ex.  I rehaired her in Dollyhair Raspberry Nymph and Deadly Nightshade.  I wanted to cover up her neck seam so I rehaired her before I painted her - and what a pain in the tush that was!  Now that I've seen most of the customs on here still have neck seams, I'm not going to worry about covering it up next time.

She's far from perfect but I really like how she turned out.

Next is "Carousel Princess", who has yet to get hair (my needle broke, even after I used the "puncher", sigh, so I'm waiting on new ones).  Same deal, sculpted all her extra bits and did a FBR with acrylics, including some glitter paint.  Going to be rehairing her in pastel pink, bright yellow and light orange.  Again, far from perfect, but I had fun with her!

Great job for your first customs. I really like the horn and colors of the first one.

Nice sculpting on the second one too. Just be careful when you put her tail in. The force of pulling it through could crack the sculpting.

Thanks so much everyone!  And thanks especially for the comments on the colors, they kind of just fell together so I'm glad they work! 

Honestly I've done a few (very unimpressive LOL) CM Stablemates before this, and I think I prefer working with the MLPs!  I think ponies really lend themselves to CMing because of their size - and the possibilities are endless!  Plus I finally think I'm getting a feel for the magic sculpt (and rubbing alcohol definitely helps!)

Thank you - yep I am afraid that's exactly what will happen with the tail...she will probably end up with a fairly skinny tail as a result, LOL!  Another new thing I learned, haha!

I have a couple more simple ones in the works already, and after that I want to try actually repositioning one

Great first, try to blend your magic sculpt in just a little more, a little more feathering it out will make your transitions from what you added to the pony even better.  Do not be afraid to use that rubbing alcohol, it can really make your work to the next level.  Are you using one thick coat on your trappings or thin?  Thinner coats work better at avoiding brush strokes as does the size brush you are using. 

It is super easy to pop your tail in and then braid and wrap to keep it clean while working.  Manes are a little trickier but can be done.  I am not a fan of neck seams.

And thank you for the tips Diamond!  If I am trying to avoid a neck seam next time I will try the braiding thing - I think that would definitely be an improvement over what I did LOL (saranwrap and tape ).  And yeah, trying to do semi-thin coats...patience is not my strong suit LOL!  Will try to make sure I feather more too (and sand more...!)
