I'm of the opinion that the vintage Lanards have ugly faces that only a mother could love, but their colors and designs are so pretty that they make up for it! What they don't have in shape, they make up for in style.

I have the seashell mom and baby, the yellow heart baby, and the dark pink mom and baby with the diamond symbols.

I do love the purple Sugar Plum, and now I want to know more about her. Ackryllis has a similar one in sea foam color... what's the story on these guys?
The earliest version of lanard ponies. I've seen these guys referred as the G1 of lanards. Here's a lovely page about the early lanards.

The ones me and Sugarblum have are from the Pastel family.

Thank you so much for that link! I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but it looks very informative!

I'm a lanard collector, and the timeline is pretty hard to pin down on these guys! There were 'normal' coloured ponies, some flocked at first, in the 80's or very early nineties, then came the predecessors to the party ponies, these were colourful (some in the same colours as party ponies, but all in the pastel family poses) but didn't have the forelocks that the pastel ponies have. The pastel ponies and their predecessors were sold in sooo many configurations! Singles, mummy & baby sets (how I got most of mine here in Australia) and sets with dolls or accessories. Within The Party Ponies, there were 9 families all up, so 18 ponies. 3 pintos (Pink/Orange/Blue) 3 Palominos (Sun/Butterfly/Flower) and 3 Pastels (Purple/Green/Blue). These were mostly in the new mummy and baby poses, with only the pastel set keeping the original poses.

After came even more new poses and sets, there were too many to keep up with! Perfume ponies, which came in the new 'teen' pose, the bridal party ponies, (Bride, Groom, Flower girl and Page boy) and the regular ponies in varying colours symbols and poses, as before, they came in many configurations and were hard to keep track of. There was also the new sitting baby pose, which is simply adorable!

Then came the 'new' ponies, gimmicky ponies that were much cheaper-looking. That's where they lost me. I got one recently in a thrift lot, and threw it straight in the trade bin. bad neck seams, thin, bendy plastic, horrible new pose, and thin, mostly-tinsel hair, and cheap accessories. There are also a lot of lanard-pose fakies available, which leak plasticiser and are generally not very durable. I had some for my niece to play with when she was over, but I tossed them, as they were sticky and disgusting after playing with them in the tub ONCE. Don't buy these, guys!

After all that info, plus the info on the link (it has pictures, yay!) 'sugar plum' is a Pastel pony predecessor - note the lack of a pink forelock, like the pony from the pastel set. This set seems to pop up fairly regularly, but they are sought after by lanard collectors, because they are so old, and because people don't always realise quite wht they are!

Such a drool-worthy post, Babydoll. :dribble:

The Starshine fakie has a slight head lean and reminds me a little of the Locket pose, which I'm quite partial to because of my childhood Star Glow. :lovey:

I was at Dollar General last weekend and saw the G3 fakies.  I almost thought about getting one but couldn't bring myself to do it.  I guess I'm too stuck on official MLP merch or something.  I know they are G3 molds and I kind of wanted one just to have one but I feel like putting a fakie in with my official MLP merch would be evil.  :lookround:
