Differences In The Same Pony. PICS
« on: August 03, 2013, 04:26:52 PM »
Hello, I had bought a 'Sweet tooth' a while back then came across another 'Sweet Tooth'
I put them side by side and noticed that Thar eyes are different in paint color.
'Sweet tooth' #1 Has a gray lash outline and pale lavender eye.
'Sweet Tooth' #2 Has Black lash outline and Darker Purple eye.

I understand that releases where being made for a while after their release. I Think this is from having different companies in Hon Kong/China.. ect..
That have different paint colors that are the same.. but still different tone paint.
As well as changing paint colors from year to year while still releasing the same pony.

Is my theory right?
Just wondering.

I have found that both of mine have a different head mold. One is looking more state foreword, The other is more looking to the side.  The nose is wider than the other.

The paint is the same darkness just a different Huge.

and no fading at all..

So why would they just make a different head? Because that's what it is a different head mold.

One pony may have just faded a bit. Do you have a photo of them together?

May I ask what makes you so certain it's not fading? It's common for ponies to fade over time and usually they fade very evenly.

Thar tones are both the same, the lollipops are the same deepness of color as there ones eyes are painted gray and the other is really bold and black. They really are the same, but now I see that the heads are very different molds.

I have never seen one that has the head looking forward one. All of the ones that I have seen are looking to the side.

Could it just be a factory error in the way the head was glued on?  Just wondering.

Yeah, check to make sure the line on the neck is lined up with the line on the body. Also, the one on the left looks slightly yellowed.

No they are different heads, I lined them up and one head is wider then the other. I mean its not factory flaw, Its a different head all together. They don't look the same.

A few possibilities.

1. Many molds were used for each unique pose and through use could produce minor variations.

2. One has a squished head- toybox syndrome.

3. The head was glued on slightly crooked.

4. Heat damage- hot car syndrome.

5. fading

6. dye lot variation

Here's what I think. The one on the left looks faded and heat damaged. Left in hot car, got too warm, deformed head and I see it slightly in her body, too. Plastics shrink and expand with heat. I done similar things to ponies purposely to fix old heat damage or customize. Color is hard to judge in your last 2 photos because the tonality of the background is different, so one pic has different (lighter) coloration than the other.

My 2 cents. :slug:

Well, I'm not sure exactly as its hard to tell from the pics and there are a few theories, but it could be that they were made in different factories at different times/ for different places. I'll tell you why I think that. I have an army Of Brush n Grow Ringlets, but before they became an army I only had my childhood one for a long time. She is definitely a lilac purple colored rather than blue/grey, has light gold eyes with thick black eyeliner, a light ish yellow streak in her hair, and is not as tall as my childhood Chief her hubby. I am in the UK.
When I decided to have a Chief and Ringlets army I bought more (or course LOL) and noticed that some Ringlets -especially those I bought from the US - are taller. Some have light brownish , thinner eyeliner, very orange gold eyes and a streak in their hair to match, Their body color is usually blue-ish or if they have faded then greyish, with no trace of the lilac purple of my UK ones.
Therefore I believe that the ones made for US release are slightly different to the ones made for UK release which seems to be backed up when I bought a US MIB Ringlets and a UK MOC Ringlets too, as these color differences were more obvious with these unopened ponies.
Soooo ramble over, I'm thinking that could be the same with your pony (Lollipop/Sweet Tooth) :awake:

I agree with Ringlets. There would most likely be more than one factory producing the same pony - one may have serviced the euro market, others the US (better control of supply and demand, packaging would need to be different, different export quality regs etc).

I think they would have all followed the same basic recipe, but from batch to batch, factory to factory there would be discrepancies. My accidental Sunlight mini army (battalion?) has variations in colour of body, hair and paint under glitter that I don't believe are down to fading.
