Painting pony question
« on: July 23, 2013, 02:15:00 PM »
Hi everyone!
I just started rehairing ponies and Im having so much fun! Now Im thinking about maybe painting a pony. But I wonder what happens if the pony has cancer or pindot and so on.. I have read so much about contagious dots. If I paint over a pony with any of those issues, do I "seal" the issues? And how do I start, should I boil the pony or something first?

Typically you'd be fine. I have heard of marker spots bleeind through but I'd say boiling will take care of anything contagious . Part of my prep is to clean the inside and out with soap. Is rust is an issue then they get treated with a little CLR soak. Then they get acetoned all over and then I paint them directly after.

What she said. :) I've done Full Body Repaints over ponies with obvious spots in the vinyl and have never had any odd spots come up in the coat. I treat my ponies pretty much the same as Barb described. ;) Good luck!!
