Is my SS Twilight Safe?
« on: July 16, 2013, 11:22:26 AM »
Hi,

SS Twilight is a very special pony to me. I have a really nice one that I keep in a display cabinet. My display cabinet faces the door to our sun room. Sometimes during the evening sunlight comes through the sun room and back door and shines in my cabinet. When I first noticed this I moved SS Twilight to another spot in the cabinet because I know her hair can fade to white. The sun still shines on her a little now though also. Is she safe in my cabinet or do I need to move her?

Unfortunately, SS Twilight has that pink hair that tends to fade very easily. If her hair is still getting exposed to sun, it will start to fade. Your best option would be to find a spot the sun doesn't hit and display her there. :) Or maybe you can cover your display cabinet during the day when the sun shines onto it.

Yeah, evening sun might not be as strong, but Twilight is so prone to fading that I still wouldn't say that she's safe. Can you find another place for the display cabinet?
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

Sunlight is bad for any collectible.  Sunfading may be a great technique for removing stains, but it's still harmful.  Any fabrics ( sunlight can rot fabrics, not just fade them, but rot them ) and glues can be damaged by prolonged sunlight.  I'm guessing a reason why some SS, whether dirty or not, yellow and others don't, is because of the glue yellowing from prolonged sun exposure.  And prolonged sun exposure can cause the glue to break down and cause her flocking to become more and more fragile.  I would keep your display cabinet completely out of any sunlight what so ever, or invest in some blinds to keep the sunlight out of your house.

I'd try and find her a non sunny spot.

I had a similar problem with my Posey army shelf, it gets sun in the evening so I made the shelf a small black felt curtain. You could do the same instead of moving the display case or getting blinds for the windows, just a small curtain that you can pull down to protect the ponies during the brightest hours.

I keep all of my fading pink gals in my bedroom. I have a blanket and curtains over the window so sun never gets in unless I let it in to see something.

Even indirect sunlight will fade ponies. :( The only good part about my residence being a windowless basement is that I can display all of my pink haired ponies here XD
I would either keep her in a dark place or keep her hair up in a hat or something else that covers it.

I agree I would move her - unfortunately UV rays get into every nook and cranny. I had a Milkweek and Tumbleweed with the pinkest hair and tails. They were put at the back of the corner of a shelf on one of the lowest shelves and are never in direct sunlight, always in shadow. The pony room is almost always dark. However, when I pulled out to dust last there is a distinct difference between their manes [which were facing forward] and their tails which had been hidden within their bassinet.

I would move her away from any sun like everyone else has said. That fading pink hair lives up to its name!

I'd move her as well... my experience tells me even the smallest amount of sun can fade that kind of pink hair... my BnG Ringlets' head was sitting in my window that get very little sun and over the course of time the pink stripe faded to white...

Thank you everyone. :) I decided to move her out of the cabinet. I put her between two boxes so I think she'll be protected there.

My SS Twilight with pink pink hair, The window Is facing my g1 pony shelves, so over easily sun-fading ponies like her, I have some of those square cheap cloth things that you can get at a craft store on cover them with that.  they're cheap too, and it does the job.
