I don't think snap on feet are any cheaper than regular shoes, I think they went with them because it's easier to design. This way they don't have to worry about how the feet will be shaped when not wearing shoes. But then again they probably didn't have time to figure it out because these seem kinda rushed like they were in a hurry to get them out while MH was still relevant.

Also if you just cookie cutter every single pair of shoes for every character the same way...then you've cut your design time and production time down by a LOT. Then all you do is paint them differently.For a large manufacturer this means it's cheaper. Even with a redesign, now they only have to make every single pare of shoes fit on the leg the same way. They don't have to design different straps or attachments to make the shoes stay on, it just snaps into the peg.
I honestly don't mind the peg-feet, if only because it makes it easier for the EG dolls to share shoes with other doll lines. Besides, they look cute with shoes on and I wouldn't want to display them barefoot even if I could. Can you imagine how they'd look barefoot?
