Can crinkled tinsel be saved?
« on: July 09, 2013, 07:44:53 AM »
I'm prone to removing frazzled tinsel from G3s, as I think they usually look better without it.
But I've got two G2s with particularly crazy tinsel, Princess Crystal & Princess Twinklestar, & I just don't think they'd look right without it, being royalty & all.  It's a big part of their design.
Is there any way of restoring frizzy tinsel to its former glory without snapping it?

You gently hold it straight between your fingers at the base and along the strand and oh-so-gently streeeeeeeeeeeetch the tinsel at the tips.  Not much, there's a tension you'll feel as it stretches.  Now let go and watch it settle down with less frizz to it.  :D

I always get my tinsel straight by doing boil-brushings...

Coat the hair in conditioner, brush it out, then pour boiling water over it and comb comb comb! Then lay something hard and flat on it while it dries. Like, cover it with a towel and plop a text book on it or osmething. When she's dry, then you can rinse her hair again and get all the rest of the conditioner out and style it as needed. :)

I flat iron it.  Never had a problem so long as it's coated in conditioner!

absolutely it can be saved -I use a lot of conditioner in the hair and a flat iron on low setting -while the conditioner is in the hair and the hair is good and wet I run the flat iron through it -Straightens it right up.

I use a clothes iron on tinsel :P But thats me being paranoid. I agree with Skeen and Ivy, you can simply use the normal flat iron technique.

Just don't iron the clear tinsel, that won't turn out so well :drunk:

THIS!  Metallic tinsel comes out amazing from a lot heat flat iron.  Clear tinsel will melt!

You can iron clear tinsel too using the same method as metallic tinsel.  Just move quickly and it won't melt.

Are there other ways to save the clear tinsel as well? I got a fluttershy who accidently got too hot and her clear green tinsel is all frizzy and crinkly!

Melting has not been a problem with clear tinsel for me. The problem is that it will look nice and smooth for a while.. but later it will go super crazy! Curly, wrinkly, crinkled.. all the words you can imagine.

Any other tinsel, I just flat iron it and it comes out beautiful.

I agree on the clear tinsel front - I use the same method mentioned above for it as I do with all tinsels. I am a little more cautious on heat and in what I put between the heat source and the tinsel but I have not had an issue with it stripping before.
