Can you lighten a body colour?
« on: July 02, 2013, 12:27:57 PM »
I'm thinking of making a custom using a G4 Rainbow Dash as a base, but I'm wondering if there's any way I can make her a slightly lighter shade of blue? Aside from painting of course. Would sunfading help here?
I don't have an exact shade in mind, just something a little lighter than a Rainbow Dash, so if there's any way to lighten a pony at all I'd like to hear it.

The only way that I know how is from sunfading though, I imagine folks that do other methods can give you some good tips! With sunfading, you need to be cautious that you keep an eye out and time how long the pony sits by the window. Rotating her will be ideal too if your looking for an even tone.

g4s heads and bodies don't seem to fade at the same rate, so be prepared for a little mismatch.

Sunfading can work but it can take ages to actually get the body itsself to fade. Certain colors fade faster than others. If I remember right, it's the red shades that fade fastest. And the heads and bodies or G4s are different materials and take different amounts of time to fade. Your best bet really is painting.
