Glacier NP & Banff Trip Advice!
« on: July 01, 2013, 01:09:58 PM »
Alright travelers, Montana people, and Alberta folk... I need some advice!

My husband and I are travelling to Glacier National Park shortly, and I was just curious as to what hikes or activites are "must sees???"  We have about 4-5 days in Glacier and about 4-5 in Banff/Columbia Ice Fields area.

Any suggestions? :)

Banff is so beautiful!  It depends upon when you'll be there and if you like classical music or not (I do), but one of my treasured memories from a trip to Banff was a Serenade at Saint-George's-in-the-Pines.  Here's the info:

http://www.banffcentre.ca/event/6154/serenade-at-st-georges?d=2013-07-16+19:30

There's four this summer, and the entry fee's a donation at the door.

Not too far away there's Bow Falls too, which was a really pretty hike, but I went that time in March, and the falls were all frozen and stuff, so it probably has a very different vibe at this time of the year...  Here's the link anyway:

http://banff.ca/?nid=654

Hope you have a lovely time - it's such a beautiful part of the country! ^.^

Hehe, thanks, guys!

And Sugar, I'll definitely have to look into those!  We'll be going this month, so I'll have to see what's available/open! :)  I'm glad to hear you love the area.  I've heard such great things, so I'm super excited!

Also - I'm not sure if you know or not - but any clue the best way to go about exchanging currency from USD to Canadian currency? :-\  I'm so clueless!!!

I can't suggest activities, but Banff is an awesome place. It's where the Mister picked for our honeymoon. The bed was big enough to have to postal codes. Scenery was magnificent. I'd love to go there again for an anniversary.

Pomegranate jelly beans?  Hm.  That sounds a little too good.  I may not be coming back, lol!!

Oh yeah... I almost forgot.

If you like jewellery, you've got to check out the selection of ammolite stuff they have there.  I turned down some ammolite pretties while I was there (silly me) but I still remember how lovely it was.  It's all rainbowy, and I think it's made from fossils.  (Googles.)  Yup, fossilized ammonites.

This sort of stuff.  I think I may have to eventually order myself some (or... it'd make a great excuse for a trip ).  Too beautiful!

Those gemstones are gorgeous!  I'm not a huge jewerly person, but I may need to pick one up, because it's just downright beautiful...(and especially so if it's Canada's gemstone)!! :)  You guys are so full of tips!

Oh, I forgot about ammolite!  I found some recently at a super expensive jewelry store in Colorado, and meant to order some online.  It's even more lovely in person.

We stopped in Banff, don't remember too much but I know we hit the hot springs, that was nice :)

Lake Louise isn't too far up the road from there, and is beautiful.
