Saw this on Ebay and wondered if the seller's description was partly just hyped up.  It did sell fairly high.  But there's a ton of G1 merch out there, some even pretty htf, that's not really that valuable, so I wasn't sure what to think.  It's also weird because the description makes the seller sound pretty experienced, but then he/she only has 22 feedback.

Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

I think it's a pretty cool item, and rare too-  the price seems high, but these things don't come up very often so that's probably why.

Huh?

Back lit film on vinyl? I could buy this brand new for about £30 including VAT from my printer.

I am not sure exactly what the seller is claiming to be honest. Its certain possible it was part of a store display at some point and therefore that's what the seller is hyping but it would be unusual to see any store display without some kind of branding on it. For me, there is no providence of the source of the item or pictures of the image in situ so I think I would tread with caution on this one. But congrats to whomever won because it will look very smart in a light box.

i agree hathorcat.   it would be too easy to reproduce and make this look aged :(   there is no proof of store display ownership.  plus for such a rare item, thos epictures are god awful.  you would think someone who circuits conventions would know to take better photos.   but also the free shipping is pretty decent sice that is a large piece.    but i would never spend that much on something that i couldnt verify

Oh- oops- I skimmed it fast and read it as saying that it was branded Toys R Us-  I assumed it was a TRU store display of some sort.   I hope nobody bid unless they actually read through the description...

I've seen it in person (from the actual seller!)
It's a monster, no way we could fit it in my car at the time.
Guy was really friendly too!

Um, I believe this item is one being talked about in TS right now (seller being a confirmed-by-ebay shill-bidder). The TS thread doesn't name them, but the ending price and bidding history matches. Here's the thread:

Hmm.  It looks really cool and I hope it is legit but without proof, there's no way of knowing it's actually a store display or actually from the 1980s.

So it's too big to even fit inside a car? How.. pretty cool. I wish he took better pictures of it.  Like the others were saying there's no way to prove it was an actual display. Neat item though.

If it is authentic, it was never displayed in any of our stores in a two hour radius.  That's not to say it isn't, but lighted box displays were not really in common use around here until the mid 90's- and McDonalds (Happy Meals) and Lego were some of the first to use them in the local toy realms.  There was a giant Paradise Estate sign that hung in TRU- was the width of the aisles, so about 3-4 ft long maybe, give or take.  We had flat back posters too, but nothing like this.  Now, as I do recall, often the lighted display boxes had logo names on the box itself, rather than the background within- so that may be a reason why it is missing the brands and titles.
Rare, likely...  legit... maybe.  It's artwork either way, so if someone likes the photography of Tiffany/Pearl and they won, then ultimately they have a nice wall decoration they'll enjoy, whether or not it's original.  Known shill seller though?  That's another matter- and nice guy or not, it just reeks of "steer clear" to me.

Yep, shill bid!  Infuriating situation.  I go out on limbs for mystery lots of blurry ponies all the time, sometimes to great effect, so I would feel pretty interested in checking this out and deciding what to do with it if I *wasn't* aware that the seller rigged the auction.  :/

It'll be interesting to see what actually arrives as the description was dodgy, the brags unlikely, the photos ridiculous, and I've never seen one like it.

Oh that's such a shame songtoisis that you were messed around that way :(

But it is lovely! And I am sure you will enjoy it when you get it on display.

I confused. What is that? the pictures are really terrible. Is it a poster? if so, why is the bottom half gone?

I'm so sad to hear that it was shill bided to raise the price.
Last summer when I bought a box of ponies from him he was so incredibly nice and gave me a really good deal.
To my knowledge the ponies were HIS as he told me about what was there and even went as far as to showed me his MLP Tattoos.
The girl in the profile picture was there, but never said a word to me, or showed any interest in our transaction.

It's been over a year but I do remember him saying it came from Germany and was displayed there.
I want to say there was some use wear to it (he had it rolled in a big tube) but I can't be sure since it was so long ago.
I wish I could be more helpful. :/
