Using curling tongs on pony hair?
« on: June 27, 2013, 04:30:13 AM »
Help! I have to get the hair curled (or at least wavy) and then the pony packaged up and ready to ship in 4 hours.

Anybody want to give me a few tips? I've literally just run out and bought the tongs - I'd normally use boiling water to curl the hair, but this pony is a beaded one and I tried with water - but wasn't very careful, got some on the pony and the beads dropped off >< Can't be doing with having to re-glue too many more beads at this late stage.

Any help would be appreciated. I have no idea how hot to set the temperature, how long to keep the hair in the tongs......anything.

Thank you *wyvernchick* for my lovely avvie!

I haven't tried it on ponies, I've played with it on dolls.  I would say lowest possible temp and keep an eye on it.  Depending on what kind of hair you used and the heat setting of the tongs, it may be safe or it may melt the hair.

For wavy a few hours in tight braids might do it.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

I'm guessing "curling tongs" is another name for "curling iron". If that's the case, you have to be very careful or your hair will melt. I've been told you need the lowest setting and the hair needs to be wet.

What I'd recommend is using a small medicine syringe to carefully wet the curls and then using a blowdryer to set them. There would be less risk of melting the hair and it would hopefully protect your beads.

I wouldn't use them, I have before but on a very low setting and even then it was close to burning right off :(
