Found something neat today

 I was out watching trains today, and at one  RR crossing where I parked, I got out of my car to grab  my tripod, and saw a strange looking rock on the gravel road next to my car. It turned out to be the tiniest box turtle (EDIT: It's actually a red eared slider)  I've ever seen:

The brown on top is just dried mud. Underneath he had the box turtle markings.

Instead of turning him loose there (where more than likely he would've got run over. I'm lucky I didn't step on him because you couldn't see him), I took him home and released him in my yard, which has lots of places for turtles to hide.

We get gopher tortoises here!  Love them!  Such harmless critters, but I do hope you washed your hands real well after handling him!  Wild amphibians and reptiles and such can be bad carriers for e.coli and salmonella!

Awwwww! Looks like our baby turtles! Aren't they the cutest things? I hope your yard has a source of cecently deep water. He needs the pressure from a decent depth of water in order to develop properly at this age.

They get a little larger than box turtles. Our city lake is loaded with them.
