When did Ken get so fashionable?
« on: June 23, 2013, 09:01:24 PM »
Today I found a Ken doll I didn't laugh at!  Usually when I see Ken, I can't stop laughing at whatever pink thing Barbie managed to force him into.  I think this must be a new set of Fashionistas, because the back of the box has an ad for Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse.  Meijer had marked down all the old Kens that had been laying around, but this gorgeous fella was marked down too:)  I got him for $7:)

I'm really excited about the dolls in this line!  I'm always complaining Barbie doesn't wear enough gold.  So they made a Barbie just for me!

I'll also be getting the one in silver and MAYBE the boy in grey:)

The rest of line is your usual mess of pink and purple :yucky:

Now if only I can find the rest of those dolls for only $7 a piece

*grabby hands*

Why couldn't they have made awesome dolls like this when I was a kid!?
I hope he pops up in my toy stores.

Oh man, I want them for their clothing! My Yo-sd would look so cute in that grey tee.

So are these new dolls? Weird that they were marked down O.o

Oh, nice find! Never been a fan of him, but there's a Ken doll I might even like too. When I was a kid my Aladdin doll was always the guy who all Barbies wanted. Poor Ken was the dumb-dumb rival. No wonder, when he looked and dressed like this:P

That's a great deal for $7! The clothing packs I see are usually $5.99-7.99 alone!

His style has really improved in recent years. They're doing a fairly good job of designing casual, non-pink clothes, which is great. I think the man is set when it comes to formal wear.

Yeah, my Aladdin got all the girls, too! Poor Ken. I think he stands a better chance these days.

Oh, wow, you're right. It used to be that Ken looked too old for Barbie; now it looks a little reversed. In general, I think that Barbie doll's just got a ton of makeup on--her more "clean faced" counterparts seem like good counterparts to the contemporary Kens.

I love the Barbie with the gold accents - how much does she usually retail for? :)

Thanks everyone:)

Yeah, these are pretty new.  They have an ad for Life in the Dreamhouse dolls on the back of the box.  I think they had marked down the tons of older Ken dolls to move them, and these got put out too early (or the stores really don't care if newer dolls sell alongside older dolls at a markdown   A sale is a sale, right?)

The regular price was $11.99 IIRC.  Target's site (which is where I stole the pics ) says they are $10.19, I think.

I've been hunting down silver and gold fashions for a couple of my dolls, and silver isn't all the hard to come by, but gold is a pain!

My First Ken.......might be the funniest thing I've seen all month   The man has come a LONG way:)

Does Ken have jointed knees this time? Last year they dropped the knee joints for the Fashionista boys.

And I just got back into doll collecting in the last few months. I am so disappointed that all the Kens I see in stores don't have the articulated knees.

I recently got a Fashionista Ken with jointed knees and they are *very* loose, he can't stand up very long! I wonder if that's why they did away with them. (I don't have any others so can't compare) The funny thing is I have My Scene boys and have no problem with thier knees

I just deboxed him.  Took less than 2 mintues!  It was the easiest deboxing I have ever had to do:)  Why can't all toys debox this nice and easy and clean?

No knee joints:(  Wow!  Knee joints are pretty important, IMO   I guess I got what I paid for, huh?

He's got blue EYE paint all over the back of his NECK too!  Glad I got him for $7.

I actually only bought him for his clothes () so I'm not upset about wandering paint and toy solider legs. They do make me laugh, though!

I REALLY gotta find the other boy for cheap (and finding the girls cheap would be nice too!) if the doll is not going to have the joints I NEED

Thanks for pointing that out, Flutterswirl!

Omgosh I just stumbled upon this thread and it's too hilarious! I googled some early 1990s Ken dolls (this would be around the time I played with Barbies) and found these (warning: your eyes might burn):
